I don't think even FTV's biggest proponents thought it would, like, DO anything concrete per se, it was basically just the biggest inflection point for deciding what the nascent left coalition that had formed around Bernie Sanders would end up being after he lost. Would it be an independent movement characterized by its goals and principles, or would it be just another flavor of Democrat? Obviously it ended up being the second one. Like 70% of the fighters we thought we had have fallen in line and the rest have given up.

Would the Squad in general and AOC specifically be insurgents intent on transforming the Democratic Party whether they liked it or not, or would they be good little soldiers? And so on

AOC could have been a world-changing revolutionary figure if she'd stuck to her principles even when it meant going against Mama Bear. Instead she's the Dem party's designated Twitter user. It's sad

Yeah AOC talked a tremendous amount of poo poo about how badass she was going to be and then cried when she got scolded into voting present on letting Israel murder as many Palestinians as they want

Ftv was a litmus test for if the squad had a whole spine between all of them and nope they're just "cool" democrats

regardless of the truth, what they’re saying here is that they want the FBI/HSI to go after “organized theft”. to the extent that it exists, this is stealing large quantities of light household goods with high value from laundry detergent and razor blades to baby care stuff like formula and diapers. these goods are then sold on storefronts like eBay, Facebook marketplace or even Amazon’s “other sellers”

where the feds could come in is to gently caress over these big tech companies for enabling this. if they were local pawn shops or flea markets they’d have faced serious charges already for this laissez faire approach.

again, I want to emphasize the “to the extent this happens” part, Walgreens and super markets in the Bay Area have gotten caught in blatant lies about this type of stuff before.

Maybe they could just do what CostCo does and not let you leave until a person checks your cart and your receipt. CostCo isn't bitching about "organized theft."

Also, a bunch of “socialists” (Now derogatorily referred to as democratic socialists) in politics, the media, and on Twitter used FTV to pull a Sean McElwee and jump off the Marxist bandwagon in favor of acquiring a better set of wheels. The silver lining is just like Sean McElwee this has really blown up in some of their faces.

That’s dumb because you can already tell who is already an insurance shill or not, and there would be plenty who would vote for it performatively because they know it wouldn’t pass, the Squad included

keep in mind it was originally an ask on the entire Progressive Caucus and particularly the progressive caucus leader at the time

it kind of became tied to aoc because aoc was the only one who really responded by typing on the internets to a professional athlete who was also a jimmy dore fan

If that were true they would have just held the vote and mocked the squad for wasting everyone's time.

The fact that they fought so hard to make sure no vote would happen tells you something. Probably that the vote would have been embarrassing for how many Dems would be forced by donors to vote against it, because Medicare For All is such a threat to profits that insurance and pharma won't tolerate even performative votes in favor by their bought and paid for legislators.

there is nothing you could demand or ask of them that wouldn't generate an excuse along these lines, which was the point of ftv.

aoc during her electoral campaign claimed to be exasperated that they could not even get a floor vote on medicare for all as an opposition to the democrats.

if ftv was a bad idea, ok do literally anything as a substitute to show opposition.

The conclusion which follows from this is absolutely incontrovertible: it has been proved that, far from causing harm to the revolutionary proletariat, participation in a bourgeois-democratic parliament, even a few weeks before the victory of a Soviet republic and even after such a victory, actually helps that proletariat to prove to the backward masses why such parliaments deserve to be done away with; it facilitates their successful dissolution, and helps to make bourgeois parliamentarianism “politically obsolete”. To ignore this experience, while at the same time claiming affiliation to the Communist International, which must work out its tactics internationally (not as narrow or exclusively national tactics, but as international tactics), means committing a gross error and actually abandoning internationalism in deed, while recognising it in word.
