What's with the (wildly popular) assumption that a Russian defeat in the Ukraine war would somehow lead to / end with Putin getting got? The most likely scenario is that if Russia loses, Putin will just go on doing what he does best (genocide and making GBS threads his pants).

its just generally common w dictators, because a lot of dictator legitimacy hinges on military victory at the same time that dictator militaries are weaker

argentines attempt at the falklands failed so hard they kicked out the junta for example. after saddam hussein got his rear end kicked the first time by the west there were a bunch of rebellions that the west was quite enthused about but didnt fund and arm so he was able to successfully put it down and genocide the rebels ethnicities

This may sound stupid but the thing is: neither of those things happened in Russia.

In all fairness to British food, it is actually pretty tasty.

What is a loving travesty is home cooking. Boiling the poo poo out of veg before it goes into a stew or pie or as a side dish. The lack of salt/pepper. The lack of herbs and spices. Thinking chicken breast and thigh have the same cook times. Medium well and well done are acceptable for a steak. No sauce. No salt in pasta water. Over cooking pasta because soft/mush means cooked. Draining water from rice. Thinking braising is boiling. Throwing raw veg into a stew. Shrugging your shoulders at not knowing the meaning of saute. Not having a meat thermometer. Thinking water is acceptable for stock. Not knowing what ''reducing'' is. Pouring olive oil over everything because Jamie Oliver does it. Jamie Oliver being allowed to cook on TV. Jamie Oliver actually existing.

Eh, the pasta method for making rice is perfectly fine if you’re cooking something like basmati where you want individual grains.

Good hit, but two expensive missiles for a lovely Iranian drone

Australia is sending another cost effective system over, this time anti-drone, a 50cal + autocannon unit that costs $1m but can fit on the back of a pick up, rather than needing a full size truck or a light armoured vehicle as a minimum

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrJcAOa4pes

Hopefully it works out as well as the carboard drones

They're (succesfully) trying to enforce the idea abroad that having Russians in your country is a very very bad idea, because Russophobia is something that resonates well at home (and with American Internet tankies). It's just another branch of their project whose main trunk has been advising, empowering, encouraging, and financing neo-Nazis in Europe. It's not 5D chess but it's something like regular-rear end checkers and they've never tried to hide it, either.
