The actions of a few lone nutters shouldn't be politicised to slander the good name of the virtuously child and women safety protestors.

Seriously, a far right supremicist with links to all the usual orgs gunned down a British MP in the streets and that was the line.

The game of rugby can never be lost or won! Just played indefinitely.

Personally I think if we make it past New Zealand (which I think is expected to be in the Quarters) than we will make it to the Finals.

But that is a big if.

To be fair, he does make Linehan look composed. Burke picked one specific dogshit to die on, whereas Linehan is just sort of smearing it around screaming "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!" at the trans people he was DM creeping on before the divorce.

And also it didn't really help that he was a confirmed chaser, that was mad when it came out

Oh 100%, it's just that that was so blatantly mirroring some really rough stuff that people pulled him up on it. Contrasted with how Matt Berry has handled that episode recently

quote:

It is the only time in our conversation when Berry seems uncertain. The episode looks “ridiculous and dated” now, he says, and he hopes people can accept that it was a product of an earlier time. He comes back to the idea later as we’re getting ready to leave. It bothers him that he wasn’t clear: “I don’t condone anything that that comedy portrayed, you know? I don’t share any views that the writer has.”

what examples in Father Ted are you thinking of? I mean sure Mrs Doyle is insane but the point is made several times that she's much smarter than the priests she works for. The solicitor in series one, Eoin McLove's handler and the author that Ted fancies are all straight characters.

I've never watched much of The IT Crowd because I thought it was shite

I was mostly talking about mrs doyle being poo poo on constantly in every ep yeah. I can't say I've got as much father ted knowledge as the it crowd though. being occasionally shown as pretty smart doesn't really change being the butt of the joke every episode though, or so it seemed to me.

A while back I watched Toast of London, written by Arthur Mathews and Matt Berry. It's full of very silly humour up there with the best bits of Father Ted or The IT Crowd, which makes me think Mathews and Berry were the source of a lot of the funnier material on those shows respectively.

At the time I read a lot of it as Irish culture being full of backwards parochial bullshit, with stuff like Mrs. Doyle being part of that whole expectation. In particular the stuff with the couple who ran the shop absolutely hating each others guts but putting on a show for the priest really reminded me of how my family down the country behaved when there was an authority figure present.

I can see what you are saying about Mrs Doyle, but she's never the butt of any joke I can remember.
She is basically the priest's mother, she does EVERYTHING for them and is the one really in charge, which is the joke on the priests not her. Like her bathing Father Dougal.
They are incapable of fending for themselves, the irish stereotype of the irish mammy.
And the priests are so oblivious to it, they tut and go 'women' as if they are in charge.

She prat falls off a window ledge a few times for doing all the 'mens' work, but then gets the last laugh at the end, thats the only time I can see her getting poo poo on.
She's also the stereotype of the old biddie gossip, the holier than thou but talks poo poo about you behind your back, which every small town in Ireland has loads of.

Never liked IT Crowd, it was just poo poo the moment it started. Chris Morris, a god everywhere else, was just poo poo in this. SHOUTY weird boss is not funny. Matt Berry was better.
And the laugh track, possibly in the top five worst laugh tracks ever on a comedy show.
