Do you have any documentation on that build or similar? It'd be ace as both an ex camera op and current school teacher to use for science.

Anyone here ever see a video 2000 machine? I remember finding a stack of like 5 or six movies next to the beta section at the video store back in the day and being like what the gently caress does this thing even play in.

LOL I didn't document a single damned thing as was my standard way of doing things. What I said in my previous post is about it. Just HDDs mounted on a frame of scrap steel I welded up, with a standard camera tripod top hacked onto it. HDDs were powered by a shoulder slung 12VDC Sealed Lead Acid battery. Wiring was custom, can't remember what I did about speed of drives though, but I do remember shock sensing SMT components were removed along with the heads internally.

Never heard of it, but yeah I think there was at least one or maybe a chain of Video 2000 stores around me when I was younger.

We had Melmac Video here who had Alf as a logo. The dude that ran it was sketchy as gently caress, and let us kids get whatever tapes we wanted on our parents accounts but with the title names changed on the ledger. (Yes we are talking the tapes behind the curtained isle)

Spin 3 discs, one on each axis XYZ.

HDD will spin with DC applied to the 4 pin so you can literally just splice into a molex daisy chain connector for all 3.

Betacam (the beta used by Hollywood that dumb nerds like to talk about) is a different format in a different form factor and is completely incompatible with consumer Beta devices.

You are correct that there is a physical form factor overlap, but the data on the tape is laid out differently and so they are incompatible. Form factor is probably not the right word, but please don't correct my English as I do not respect this language :h:

How hard would it be to put a small rechargeable battery in there so you don't have to crank the whole time? I'm assuming you could grab a li-on with a charging circuit with the right voltage and wire it in, yeah?

At the time it was designed rechargeable batteries sucked in every way so it makes sense why it has none but yeah, nowadays it's extremely easy and cheap.

Also batteries, of any chemistry, do have a shelf life. That thing looks robust enough to last for decades with occasional maintenance (which will be much easier thanks to the parts kit and the local-language teardown/troubleshooting guide). Besides, it does have a DC socket for an external battery pack (which might also power other devices), and I'm sure rechargeable varieties of those packs exist.

I'm not a fan of this kind of proselytizing effort, but whoever designed that player had their head screwed on straight, engineering-wise.
