Random rules question: say the QB is out of the pocket and throws the ball out of bounds and it lands past the line of scrimmage but it crosses the out of bounds plane in the air before the line of scrimmage. Is it grounding or not? (assuming no receiver in the area)

I believe it's technically grounding, but I'd be astonished if it was ever called

quote:

Intentional grounding will not be called when a passer, who is outside, or has been outside, the tackle position, throws a forward pass that lands at or beyond the line of scrimmage, even if no offensive player(s) have a realistic chance to catch the ball (including when the ball lands out of bounds over the sideline or endline). If the ball crosses the line of scrimmage (extended) beyond the sideline, there is no intentional grounding.

So, not grounding.

In 2007 the Ravens were 4-3 coming off the bye then faced the Steelers, our first real opponent all year. We seemed competitive but were against mostly junk teams. Then we faced the Steelers and got absolutely wrecked. We won one single game in "garbage time" of the season right at the end, losing to the winless Dolphins along the way and sealing Billick's fate.

I foresee this Lions game being that Steelers game of this year and being a game that exposes this team for what is is and where the players quit on their coach. And sealing the deal for John Harbaugh's exit.

It was a monumental point in the team's history. Billick had just signed a big extension after his big gambit taking over playcalling in 2006 and going 13-3. Firing seemed unthinkable. But it happened.

I like the Ravens. I like Lamar Jackson. Roquan Smith is awesome and Kyle Hamilton is very good as well. So is Mark Andrews most of the time. What I don't like is being run by a dunce who brings nothing to the team. It wouldn't be as infuriating if our QB were Mac Jones and our TE were Darnall Dinkins. But what's frustrating is these last several years having a unique talent at QB and failing to put him in a position to succeed. Yes Lamar has his bad moments like those two throws he made to Bateman and Beckham in the 3rd quarter. But his good moments should eclipse those by far if we could just take full control of games when we have the chance. But almost every single time we don't. We make a dumb cutesy playcall that doesn't work when we would have just beat them.

That's one reason the 2019 Ravens offense was so successful even though run by another dunce Roman. Because we didn't get cute when we didn't have to and that was all the time just about. We had on the line pre-injury Stanley, Yanda, and Orlando Brown Jr. We could beat you for yards on almost every play so that's how we operated. And we steamrolled many teams doing that. But now we don't have those guys on the line anymore but we can still win sometimes but we get cute like with that Andrews sneak or some dumb shovel pass like last week.

So far Monken is a much better play designer. But he's not great as a caller. Just that his offense has more functional plays than Roman's crippling play design.

I do. If I just hated the players and we had no chance I'd check out and not give a drat. There's part of me that wants to say we're a lower-talent team than the fanbase likes to admit but that we don't have any is just wrong. It's true at WR and edge rusher but that's it. We should be doing better than this but we can't. Look at that graphic they showed about the blown leads. That's insane stuff and nobody has blown more games in the 4th than the Ravens lately and if they had even Tannehill in and not who they did we might have even done it again today!!
