Not being funny but the keeper really should have saved that Carlos one against Gremio, it was well telegraphed.

Barthez had no chance, mind.
i like mccoist complaining about barthez’s positioning until he saw the replay and just shut up about it haha

Hi there.
Not really comparable imo. Juninho is the best free kick taker of all time, but his knuckleball technique was quite different from Roberto Carlos. What made Roberto Carlos unique was his overwhelming shooting power, extreme pace and stamina combined with a very low center of gravity. That combination is really something only Roberto Carlos offered.

carlos had a pretty mid scoring rate from free kicks iirc, but as a neutral fan i don’t care about that. the goals he did score were maximum phwoar and that's all that matters to me

also i was 11 years old when he scored that goal against france which was peak “try to recreate it” age

i was 11 and unathletic, i couldn’t even get the ball to go 35 yards without bouncing lmao

now if you’d asked “how many times did you make glancing contact with the ball and fall on your arse”,

Yeah that goal was a key part of the schoolground football culture of the time and it technically was only a friendly match. This was also the start of the Beckham times and the Adidas Predator times with the ridges on the sides of the boots to help curve the ball.

A key part of schoolground football culture for me was everyone screaming "BATISTUTA" before kicking the ball as hard as humanly possible towards the goal

It took me several years to realise that Gabriel Batistuta was a player (I just thought it was a very cool thing to yell)

I do have a fondness for really baggy shirts and the state that goal mouths used to get into before grassmaster came along

We used to yell "BATIGOL" whenever someone scored a screamer.

Also I used to model myself as a combination of Rene Higuita and Jose Chilavert when playing in goal
