UKMT Solidarity Fund Update, October 2023 You. Guys. Rock. Seem like a remarkably big weakness. Are they allowed to guesstimate? Who checks the count is accurate? Is a second vampire compelled to be called in and verify the count? Does the count have to be recorded anywhere?

Does the count have to be recorded anywhere? Terry Pratchett gets into the bizarreness of traditional vampire weaknesses at length in Carpe Jugulum (a Good Book): quote:Two things have traditionally puzzled vampire researchers. One is: why do vampires have so much power? Vampires are so easy to kill, they point out. There are dozens of ways to dispatch them, quite apart from the stake through the heart, which also works on normal people so if you have any stakes left over you don't have to waste them.

The more boring version would be that the movies themselves hid it because a movie where Dracula spends half of it looking for his missing sock wouldn't appeal to horror fans and Cheech and Chong already took it for the stoner movie genre.

Would that change your answer? (Also, the film is set 5 years after the first film, so to keep it consistent, they'd have to call it Dracula 2005. Or Dracula 2006. Plus the original writers hated having the year in the title so they wanted it ditched for the sequel. I think they didn't want people to confuse them with Dracula 3000, which was about Dracula....IN SPACE!)

Actually think this is a bit of a shame – there was an era, before a decade or so of cuts and right wing psycho management that Newsnight produced some decent reports. Once upon a time they probably would have had someone in Gaza at the minute, definitely recall them having reporters speaking to civilians in Iraq during the war. UK political coverage was usually poo poo, but it was good the BBC used to fund that sort of "deeper" late night reporting. The amount of times you look for early coverage of the internet, computers, turn of the century technological developments, late career interviews with people like Bowie in the 90s and early 00s and it's a Newsnight clip – not really sure where anything like that would come from now. Having to piece together the story of how people reacted to ChatGPT from silicon valley tweets and Daily Mail articles.
