That scene is so good.

You have guys who range from "hates chaos as much as the Imperium" to "half-possessed demon worshipper" at a big meeting of Alpha Legion head honchos, and they all kinda hate and distrust each other, and then some jackass introduces himself as "Alpharius" and everybody else groans and rolls their eyes in unison.

I'm in the middle of that book and it's getting funny how often Alpha Legion guys have been described as "big for a space marine."

"Morv was big even for an Astartes" "Va'kai was unusually tall, even for an Alpha Legionnaire" "[Alboc] was a massive Space Marine, half a head taller than any of his remaining brethren" etc.

Reminds me of the 3rd book in the Nightlords trilogy and how Talos was telling someone to stop whining every 10-15 pages.

I'm caught up on Dawn of Fire, and the Raptors haven't been featured at all. From my memory, chapters that have been featured/mentioned are:

- Ultramarines
- Space Wolves
- Black Templars
- Imperial Fists
- Storm Reapers
- Marines Malevolent
- Void Sabres
- Raven Guard

For Imperial Guard:

- Catachans
- Mordians
- Savlar Chem Dogs
- Plus a few tied to whatever planet they're on like the Veluan Hoplites and the Pyroxian armored company

The Raven Guard got decals on the Leviathan sheet, while the Salamanders didn't. Salamanders get decals on the new sheet along with Raptors.

My theory here is that GW is just varying up who gets decals on each sheet, on the assumption that if you really want decals for your guys, you can find them via aftermarket from people who got other sheets with decals they don't want. If that's the approach, it's more important to put out new sheets with decals not covered by previous sheets than to ensure that all the big factions get decals on all the currently-available sheets.

(And, obviously, if you really want decals for your guys, there's probably a Horus Heresy decal sheet for you.)

I do think GW could do a better job supporting chapters outside the first founding as good as the heresy decal sheets are.

I think for launch boxes it makes sense for GW to hit the core chapters that will eventually get their own decal sheets in specialist units but for the individual boxes its a good opportunity to drop those for less popular chapters. I'm going to probably do a Raptor as a side project just because I have some decals for them now.

It would be really great if they got a little wilder with decals! Throw in some Emperor's Spears or Minotaurs. Even doing some successors on sheets for Blood Angels/Dark Angels. Toss some Wolfspear symbols on the Space Wolves sheet.

To be fair, night lords are the whiniest chapter, but also ADB finds a phrasing he likes and then runs that poo poo into the loving ground. look for things being “not funny” or “the wrong side of hilarious” or similar.

They did one set of Wolfspear transfers in a White Dwarf issue a while back, so they even have them already designed.

Yeah! I have a sheet because I love decal options. They did a decal sheet for Emperor's Spears for the limited edition book, so they have those file somewhere too.

So I went to the Tampa US Open last Saturday and had a great time. I didn't participate in the tournaments as I could only be there on Saturday, but my brother and I did open gaming and did a painting class.

Gaming hall was big and they had plenty of extra tables set up for kill team open play (all octarius terrain). They had a big Dropsite Massacre diorama which was super cool, along with a life size Terminator statue (named Arnold). Painting class was for Non Metallic Metal and lasted two hours. Instructor had a few Golden Demon wins to his name and was a great presenter. My NMM Storm cast eternal turned out like crap, but it was fun and you got to keep all the paints, the Storm cast, plus three brushes.

They also had a store setup in the main hall and was awesome getting to physically look through all the forgeworld sets, and seeing Reaver titans and Ordinatus engines on the shelf was wild. I picked up the notebook-size 10th edition rulebook and, against all odds and any thought of possibility, a new, metal Iron Warrior Warsmith. They also had all kinds of rare old out of print stuff on the shelf in metal and fine cast, which was cool. A few Joytoy sets, MacFarlane figures, and various pins, books, and dice were also available.

My only complaint was a lack of single-day events or even some kind of casual/narrative Kill Team game, otherwise it was a great time!

The current sheet that comes in all their kits is from 2018 and has TS on it but no EC, so if the reason is telegraphing a new army I think they pulled the trigger a little early.

depends on if its been sealed or not with varnish most decal softeners also function as a decal remover but painting over should be fine

I made my own ruleset for 40k, so they'll be getting their own custom statline. But for a normal game they could def be Obliterators. They could also probably be a stand in for a character like Abaddon, a Helbrute, or whatever else is on a 60mm base

I still haven't figured out how to really ascribe my own point costs to my system yet. Hopefully I can figure it out to make army building easier.

That's great. Initially I disliked how the mouth is all plasma, I felt it made the jaw hard to read, but maybe look up how people make dripping blood effects, and do that but with your plasma colour, like it's drooling plasma from just shooting?

Not bad for a little over a day on and off, including magnetizing my first wargear option. Just needs crackle paint on the base, maybe something on the shin-scroll, and a chapter badge once I get some transfers made.

Edit: this isn't the painting thread, sorry.

Er, talking of plasma, I figure after Deathwing and Ravenwing detachments for Dark Angels maybe there could be a plasma-heavy one? Something for the "greenwing"? I guess some modification or protection from hazardous checks?

I got some feedback, the big thing people are telling me that the mouth feels unfinished, I think I'll take another pass at it and incorprate the purple onto the jaw, the 'drip' effect might not be working but the mouth glow might do just fine.

I've found quite often that really small details can make something "look off" without being able to immediately identify it.

It can be really small stuff, like at one point the line you painted was a bit too thick. It kind of niggles at people because their eyes see it but they can't process why it's wrong.

I know for sure I've had times frustrated because something doesn't look right and it took me ages to figure out why.

I love how the mouth plasma looks like a photographic negative, tied to the vanes lighting up like a Godzilla's.

If anything, maybe increase the contrast by darkening the area around the mouth and making the inside of the throat more white?

yeah this is what I'll go with, I'm gonna make the jaw purple and make the area immediately of the mouth the one that's glowing, this way there's more contrast. this way it will help with breaking up the blue a little

I'd say that's a lot better. It breaks up the visually indistinct mass of plasma color, making it look more intentional and conveying that there's a mouth there doing something with the plasma. Combined with the back vents and it now being the face frills that are doing the plasma instead of the entire lower half of the skull it looks much more like a Godzilla-esque traveling wave of glowy plasma than a toddler that got their birthday party cake.

I suspect the Dark Angels refresh will include Primaris Ravenwing. Maybe a new Talonmaster so at least bike captain can get a "sort of".

Is Phobos apothecary "sort of" because you can get that upgrade on infiltrators? Because if so a terminator version exists in Deathwing.
