galagazombie posted:It’s not that arbitrary. It was basically a tv show that had its big series finale. Everything was about “Let’s all team up and punch the purple man” and they did it. They punched the purple man. Purple Man is dead. All the protagonists that mattered are dead or retired. Who the hell cares about Ant Man and Shang-Chi? Plus of course the “MCU Formula” is a non-renewable resource. You can only chuckle at “Well THAT just happened!” So many times. And when you replace all the well liked characters/actors with D-Lister nobodies like the Eternals peoples tolerance for it falls even faster. Like it was obviously already a stale formula before Endgame, but the characters had enough residual charm you wanted to see them all punch the purple man and put a bow on the whole thing. Like a show that is running on fumes it’s last season or so but has a good sendoff series finale. Imagining an MCU where COVID doesn't force them into basically taking 12-18 months off shortly after Endgame.

There are some examples depicting actual poverty conditions, a fave I always return to every couple of years is I am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang (1932). check it out, it's a very brisk 90 minutes and Paul muni slays in it as a WWI vet who cant land a steady job, gets rolled up into a labor prison on a bullshit charge and gets his life destroyed by the state prison system. The last act gets all Hollywood, rags-to-riches-rags and like a car chase shootout. But hell that's dope too.

doesnt wanda then become the villain in the next doctor strange movie that was kind of weird thinking about how the way she just straight up murders unrelated people in other dimensions is oddly inline with how endgame treats people from other timelines as not being people at all that should have been the twist to secret wars there are no skrulls just heroes from other timelines or dimensions loving up the one the one were watching because main character syndrome has turned them into psychopaths

that's kinda sorta what the Loki show was about, the whole time authority is there to stop alternate timeline heroes/villains from loving up the canonical universe

the message of all the cape flicks seems to be that as a member of the mass majority, free will is the real fiction. That's the ultimate premise of the Loki series on the Marvel side. on the DC side, the final confrontation between Wonder Woman and Trump stand-in Maxwell Lord goes like this: WW: This world was a beautiful place just as it was... and you can't have it all. You can only have the truth. And the truth is enough. The truth is beautiful. So look at this world and look at what your wish is costing it. ML: Why would I when it's finally my turn? The world belongs to me! You can't stop me. No one can! WW: I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to everyone else. end of history rhetoric that nothing can ever be allowed to change mind your betters bc people can't govern themselves (nevermind that people have been propagandized to the extent that they can no longer define basic terms of common political discourse). there's even a short scene in Loki where it's revealed that he was D.B. Cooper and if you are up on Epstein thread lore, there's a theory that the real D.B. Cooper was Phoenix Program honcho and CIA boss William Colby the alternate timeline stuff is also subterfuge in the sense that there's a version of you in this modal set of infinite realities where your perception isn't dominated by poo poo-life syndrome and you are instead Jeff Bezos-type in other realities, so that should provide enough comfort not to stir the pot in this material world
