e2; poo poo, I just realised that KEX sshock2 makes KEX Thief and T2 a possibility.

Not that there's anything wrong with the Newdark release but the convenience would be nice.

It was a pre-order bonus for System Shock 1 Remake, and unlike the Quake re-releases it doesn't have one of the richest megacorps in human history backing it, so highly unlikely.

Uuuuuuuuhhh....? That's exactly how SS2 looks when you play it nowadays, HD texture packs have been out for a decade or two. I'm totally serious, I was keeping a sharp eye out and the only possible difference I saw was on the rumbler model. Maybe the droid model looked a touch cleaner?

Nightdive got bought out/folded into a bigger fish a little while ago so this is most likely the last big project they had on dock before their incredible and improbable run of excellent remasters ends as they succumb to corporate bullshit. Enjoy what could very likely be the swan song.

I mean the advantage is that now you can buy a copy and not have to worry about finagling a bunch of mods, which will get a few casual buyers like Zoomers to try it out. I would certainly appreciate a tighter UI/UX for the whole thing, but that might just be my inability to map to Ye Olde Dark Engine.

I'm not crying about it, or saying it's a bad thing. All things end and part of being a decent consumer is recognizing the signs. It won't be for at least half a decade before it's really felt, so pointing out that they've peaked isn't the same thing as saying let's stop enjoying the ride.

Licherally zero reason to touch the soundtrack to SS2. It absolutely rules. The 90's breakcore has this sinister edge to it and more than half the soundtrack is dark ambient drones. The SteamDB history suggests that something's happening. Dunno what exactly, but from the looks of the config settings it might also be adding the DOS version as a launch option.

We have Blood access back and I tried updating some stuff but found one specific bug fix I needed to backport relied too much on Kex4 render context and multithreading code to function. So right now I'm doing an update of Blood to Kex4 instead during my spare time, it'll take a bit.

Otherwise I have the DOS version packaged and working that I might just push out at random (I.e when I feel I have a week to field any bug reports from any configuration weirdness.)

It's inevitable but it doesn't seem we're there yet with Atari so yes I'd take the word of someone who knows what's going on in the company they work for over someone guessing on a forum.

There's at least a little legitimate interest from the new leadership in restoring the brand as a legit video game company, or at least that's what they've been trying to project. I suspect that they see the good will that Nightdive have established and the good work that they do as beneficial in rebuilding. They've made other decisions that indicate movement in that direction, most notably dropping the plans for the hotel and casino business that their predecessors were gunning for:

Wikipedia posted:

On 18 April 2022, Atari announced the termination of all license agreements with ICICB Group and its subsidiaries ("ICICB"). The license agreements between Atari and ICICB, including the Atari Chain Limited license (the "Joint Venture") and the related licenses including hotel and casino licenses, have been terminated effective 18 April 2022. ICICB is not authorized to represent Atari or its brands in any manner.

Of course Atari are also still pushing a blockchain thing, which to me is more terrifying than any creative meddling since I'm sure it'll inevitably fail and result in Atari needing to tighten up. Nightdive seems like the type of well loved company that'd be seen as not-profitable-enough and culled first. All that aside I think it's a bit ignorant to assume that their day-to-day operations are being messed with given what we know and what they've been working on.

Now a quick question about the Quake 2 remaster on consoles. I tried the mouse and keyboard support on both Series S and PS5 at launch and was good but sometimes rebinding keys was funky (not working sometimes) on the menu, didn't check in a month and sadly due to work can't check, do you guys patched/looked into that? To resolve the one issue that has plagued SS2 fans for years, night dive should add a dialogue choice for the final word spoken in the game:

1. Nah
2. Naaaaaaah
3. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (continues indefinitely until player presses alt+f4)

I don't feel like we had a report of that nature, the binds menu seemed to function fine, but we did fix one specific issue with two binds around the wrong way. You may need to just retest.

as you may notice, all three steps involve looking at a spider. this may be a problem for people who have a pathological fear of spiders, particularly when playing system shock 2, a game noted for featuring some of the most terrifying giant spiders in videogaming history
