Its a big strategic defeat for Israel anyway you look at it. But why would backing down from a ground invasion mean they are finished? They can cling on to what they have for some more decades if they do that. Build up fortifications around the strip and eat the occasional raid that kills thousands. Its only if they insist on escalating this further that they are finished here and now. Ofcourse that is what they are going to do, but they dont have to.
