In the twilight days of FSX, there was a mod that came closest to realizing a proper ATC dream. The difference from all the timetable/fligthplan traffic and atc packages was it threw out all the AI airplanes and inserted it’s own, then used slew to move them around on SID and STARS and doing it with speed and efficiency.

that's what BeyondATC is planning to do. I was in the first beta so I got to kick it around for a bit and it was already really good (didn't have the AI stuff yet then), did proper vectoring and would adapt to weather (so runways could change) and basically turned it into a fun challenge. Voice recognition was fantastic too, and very lenient in how you talk to ATC so you don't have to worry about not saying the exact right words. The guy developing it is now working with some of the FSTL people so it will also control AI traffic. It all sounds really good and they seem to know what they're doing so I'm pretty optimistic it'll be a good experience.

Nuclear Option is now out for early access

Haven't bought it yet but I suspect I will, it looks like it might scratch a lot of my semi-casual FS itches.

I tried the playtest and it seemed pretty neat. Didn't get to try the nukes yet. I found it to be kinda difficult at first since your aircraft are fragile and to unlock better ones you have to get kills.

Took me a bit to get things configured with my HOTAS but once I did it was a hell of a lot more stable than MSFS.

In other Flight Sim but not Flight Sim news, Brew Barons finally dropped their beta for Kickstarter backers and it royally kicks rear end. I’ll admit I’m predisposed to like it since it’s liquor, seaplanes, and a management game, though.

I didn't like how simplistic the flying was, but it definitely looked cool.

It’s definitely still probably on the arcade side of “Simcade” in their new manual mode, but it feels like flying an actual plane instead of the sort of point and go of their “simple” controls. I’m not sure it’ll make everyone happy and it took me a little tweaking but I’m definitely more happy than I was with the demo in terms of just the flying.

There is the Aeronautical Insanity thread in AI and I *think* there might be a commercial pilot thread in A/T somewhere but I can't find it right now, could have died at some point.

Ya, the aviation thread linked there is the real life pilot chat thread. We just made a new one after like ten years in the old one.

There's some overlap in the Aeronautical Insanity thread but that one is more "airplanes" than "pilots."

I was just wondering if MS plans on implementing something like that into MSFS2024. MS has the ChatGPT integration in Bing so it's definitely a thing they are focusing on.

This is a good time to remind myself then that honestly I do not play Microsoft Flight Sim enough, and I don't have the space, for more gadgets that increase the immersion of the sim. I have their one really nice Alpha Flight controller, and that is good enough.

back in february I ordered new C-clamps for mounting my Bravo to my desk as I lost the old ones when moving. The order was canceled with no immediate explanation nor notification, and it took a MONTH AND A HALF before I got a response to my "WTF???" email.

their explanation? "high risk of fraud because your billing address doesn't match your shipping address".

So rather than contact me they just canceled without so much as an email to let me know.

Last they emailed they were still blaming the chip shortage for not being able to deliver the Charlie Pedals on time and anyone that had a preorder would get a Honeycomb Hat as a "thank you." I think it was supposed to ship Q2 or Q3 of this year but there's still no sign of it. Still waitin' on my preorder. lol
