I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Remember my earrings and art are much better than my posting

New stuff starts towards end of page 3 of the thread

This is genuinely not scary and that actually never happens for me with spiders.

I think it must be because it's working those front legs so much that it doesn't have the instinctively terrifying 8 legs look that means it's a spider

Jumping spiders tend to look adorable because they have those big babby eyes.

But holy poo poo, that thing is huge, i always thought jumping spiders are sub 1cm.

I think this is it too. Most other spiders you can barely see their eyes, and if you can, you can see all of them clearly in their weird configurations. Jumping spiders have those big primary eyes, and the others are much less pronounced, so they definitely have a friendlier "face" than almost all other spiders.

There's also a point of prettiness where a "bug" (using it as a catchall term here) stops being creepy or gross. Butterflies, ladybugs and dragonflies all make that cut.

When I want to relax, I read an essay by Engels. When I want something more serious, I read Corto Maltese.
I think their legs being proportionality not as long compared to their body also helps.

Our old house has these inch-long spider friends with striped legs and yeah, they're not exactly friendly-looking like that guy over there, but they're big enough to move into some mental category where I choose to consider them as fellow tenants instead of bugs. They also clear up a huge amount of unwanted bugs so whatever, they do their share of upkeep, awesome!

The males are a little creepy looking.

Although, I think the one in the video is a Phidippus something-rather? One moment, I can’t remember the large phidippus species. Audax maybe? I think the one that gave high fives on command was a female bold jumping spider.

Any of the captive bred and raised jumping spiders are usually friendly to humans, according to all the jumping spider videos I watch.

I just spent way too long looking at jumping spider hobbyist videos. I knew Phidippus was a cool spider family, but I had no idea some of them got that big! It's really a shame they're so short-lived - I like spiders, but most of them don't have enough personality or intelligence for me to be interested in keeping them.

Someone hand Children of Time to a smart kid right now, so that they can grow up wanting to genetically engineer a gigantic friendly jumping spider that lives 20 years please.
