I went and looked it up as I've heard it mentioned a couple of times now, it's a new Twitch competitor with more gambling streams, a more toxic community, but it pays its streamers 95% (currently) of their sub revenue instead of 50%, so who can say if it's good or not.

Kick was started by a crypto-currency casino because Twitch banned slots. Slots was exploding in popularity on twitch and it was a huge business for casinos overseas. "Hey I'm sponsored by this casino in Malta, also, I'm sponsored by this shady VPN company for no reason! Wink wink!" The streamers were largely playing with a 50/50 mix slush fund of cash provided by the casinos and targeting kids and poo poo so basically yeah Kick is shady as can be.

You gotta go easier on yourself. Like, 900 Rapid puts you in the 70th percentile on Chess.com. Imagine being in the 70th percentile of basketball players among people who bothered to play once or twice a week. You wouldn't win every pickup game you jumped in, but you'd feel pretty good about yourself! Feel free to feel pretty good about yourself even as you lose games in the dumbest ways. I took a few weeks off from 15+10 due to some stuff that limited my free time (basically, I couldn't reliably block out more than 5-10 minutes at a time) and just played a ton of 5+3 and 2+1. I came back to Rapid on Friday and promptly lost 5 games in a row with >5 minutes left on my clock to stuff like, "moved immediately and didn't notice their completely free Queen." I get now why people talk about fast chess rotting your brain.

Played three games tonight, won two lost one and in review I should have solidly won the third as well but did a dumb by getting target fixation and not looking at the entire board. Doh! What is this feeling, wanting to play more chess?!?

I have found, recently, that I like it when I win a game of chess, but I still do not like it when I lose a game of chess. I think it's different from a lot of other games that have some element of chance, because it means when I win a game of chess that is proof that I am smart. Conversely, when I lose a game of chess, 100% of the time it is demonstrating that I am, in fact, an idiot. It is always the case that my mistakes were visible and I was able to perceive and avoid them had I just, like, used my brain better and been smarter. That said, when I win, as previously mentioned, it is absolute incontrovertible proof of my mental superiority. ... In other news, I have a question, how come there are no chess smileys? I feel like there ought to be by now. This thread should probably also have a gang tag.

In a tournament, I'd guess they'd say gg draw, you say no, they say I have no legal moves, you call over a tourney organizer, and they either say "not stalemate" or tell them what the move is. In any other context obviously just tell them ofc

Well, it would be their move clock counting down, so if they want to claim draw by stalemate, they will stop the clock and get someone. That person will tell them it is an improper claim and probably give you time on your clock to make up for your opponent's wrong claim. Then they get to try to find the legal move before their time runs out.

you know, admins or whatever giving a gang tag is an av change and every one has to be approved by an admin in the queue, so it's a hassle: and then also it's giving away free poo poo, but I don't think jeffrey cares much about that part mostly just flooding the queue with a hundred av changes is a pita for them to deal with I guess

played what I thought had been a careful, thoughtful game, and in reviewing it the computer agreed. Up until the point I hung my queen. Fortunately, opponent didn't see it under the pressure I was applying but holy hell, play dumb games, I guess this is what Ben Finegold means when he says "you are playing up to your rating"
