Yeah, I was in the old three tier first school, middle school, high school system at first, then they changed it to a two tier primary-secondary right as I was going into year 7, so I was part of the first class of 11 year olds going to a high school. It would have been scary but honestly no one knew what was going on it was so badly planned and iirc the year 7s ended up being taught in portacabins outside the main building because they didn't have enough room for us so we were all separated from the older kids anyway. I may be misremembering because we ended up in portacabins for years later down the line too after some tearaway students deliberately turned all the gas taps on as they left for the day then came back at night and threw matches through the window, burning the whole main building to the ground. Looking back that must have been chaos for my parents but I got like 3 months off school so Kin posted:Or when she refused to let one kid go to the bathroom until he pissed himself and then made two of us go out to get the mop and bucket from the janitor and clean it up for him. Lol we were categorically not allowed out of class to use the toilet, and during break/lunch they had a strict one use per pupil policy, enforced for some reason by one of the dinnerladies? You could be sobbing you needed to go so badly and they'd just shrug and say come back next break. Didn't help that the school bully found it hilarious to wait outside the door to where the loos were in the yard in the last 10 mins of lunch and grab anyone who looked like they were desperate, then held them in place till the bell went. Once again, this was not considered a mitigating circumstance and they never actually challenged or disciplined the kid unless they directly witnessed him doing it. Obviously several people ended up sitting in hoops for literally pissing themselves in class, in addition to suffering the humiliation that went with that as standard. Crazy how cruel schools were thinking about it, and that's well after they stopped being allowed to literally beat the kids. ThomasPaine fucked around with this message at 10:56 on Oct 26, 2023 |

Pretty impressive that in order to make a Clean Break from Corbyn's Fourth Reich, Starmer decided to alienate British Muslims in order to gain 0 Jewish votes because anyone who changed their vote over Corbyn is not going to vote for a guy who campaigned for Corbyn in 2019.

I got shipped off to boarding school when I was 9 which was all hymns, but the one song I remember from before then was the time one of the teachers thought it would be funny to have us sing "The Muckspreader Song" and a bunch of parents complained.

In an attempt to woo back the Muslim vote Starmer will arrive in Canada and demand an audience with Trudeau, then at a joint press conference announce, to Trudeau's confused surprise and horror, a new policy for both countries to expel all Hindus back to their "backwater land of curry and dung" before ceremonially flinging a korma, on a plate, like a frisbee into the screaming press gaggle.

The kind of serious people who don't actually give a poo poo about the charity's goals or aims, since they're just careerist cunts working their way towards an early retirement sitting on a bunch of corporate boards somewhere.

So I wonder if he's looking at the shambling fuckup that is Keith Sterner and thinking "man, I could do that"

The problem also often comes back in part to charity boards of trustees, which are rightly chosen to represent a range of viewpoints in order to collectively sense-check the organisational direction, but which are most often populated by respectable, easily-spooked late-career MBE types with a background in business or operations. And so when a big charity needs to take a potentially divisive stance in a fast-moving environment, the cycle can very quickly become, 'hold off, this is a bit controversial so we need to get the trustees' thoughts on the wording', 'ok, so I got through to the chair on the phone - he was playing tennis - and the trustees are worried that we're going in too strong. Can we find a way to soften this?' 'heard back from the trustees on the second draft, one of them's asked if we should be doing a "Tick Tock"? Is there any point in us putting out a statement if we're not on 'Tick Tock'?"
