One of your early quests is to overcome Kasimir's alcoholism and you basically have to just wait out his alcohol withdrawal, during which his carrying strength and movement speed are reduced and he will grumble incessantly about how much he wants some booze. This is annoying but won't last forever, it eventually goes away if you just make him quit cold turkey. I think you can also taper him off with softer stuff like beer and warming tea (made from tea, sugar, and vodka at stove, it's also good if you catch a cold), but I've always just waited it out. Like real alcoholism, it's never really beaten and if you drink too much he'll go back into this state, so you have be careful about it.

There's a few quests or things that require Kasimir to drink to complete them (the drunk guy in town wants you to show him you can get wasted, the sawmill guys want you to fish with a grenade which Kasimir won't do unless he's drunk). For the most part it's not much of a factor past the first few hours since there's not much reason to drink alcohol beyond the warming tea, which is used more just for keeping warm or from getting sick.

Kasmir also has something like a good/evil meter. There's two game modes, one of which has you have a limited lifespan and apparently you live longer if you live a good life (which I assume means not drinking/fighting/etc much and fixing up the farm), and another that has an unlimited lifespan. I've always played the unlimited mode so I haven't worried about it much.

Huh, that's kind of interesting. I see it has a demo so I'll check it out. Thanks for the rundown.

I need to chime in to say this game is incredible. Completely awesome, and a hell of a ride. It's excitebike with gunplay and metroid power ups mechanics wise, and a hell of a dark, heavy story on top of it. The game certainly makes being an immortal coyote warrior with a gun seem to suck. There's still moments of levity and heart, and it doesn't go grim dark but holy hell, play the demo and see.

Then buy the game.

Yeah, played a few of hours of it, I'd probably liken it to Super Meat Boy, in that deaths are instant and many, and restarts are quick. Definitely gives me that just one-more-try to get past this thing feel.

Notable lack of puzzles that rely on you to wait around for a drone or your rewound self to interact with, lack of deaths forcing you to reset long puzzles that you spent a while setting up, secrets are clear on the compass and automatically saved, far more interesting tools and areas to explore rather than riffs on other stuff Croteam had made.

Was actually about to bring this up, as I picked it up on a whim yesterday and have certainly had a fair bit of fun with it so far (currently just entering the 4th month). It's not perfect, and as you mentioned there are errors in the translation (though not that many - it's an okay translation all things considered), but it's also less than $10. I've certainly gotten my money's worth already, and I'm only like 1/3 to 1/4 (judging by their time estimation of a successful first run) through my first playthrough.

Did you get through Gehenna? It has some of my favorite writing of all time it's extremely cute and charming, and I think will be relevant to the storytelling for 2. Although the puzzles do get back on their bullshit something serious so I advise just looking up solutions when stuck just to progress.

This is really pleasant. The core gameplay is nice and focused, the music sets the mood nicely, and everything else is more than good enough for a one man production. It's a bit hard on the default difficulty, but it's remarkably easy to tweak that.

I left one just now. It is a very good game, but not very long. You can reach an ending in less than three hours, but there are many ways to get there, and you cannot see anything everything in one play-through.

Three Minutes To Eight came out yesterday. It's one of them timeloop games where you have 15 minutes until you die, and then you have to start over and try to figure out what's happening.

It's a point-and-click adventure, and a thing I like about it is that you're not actually on the clock in real time - it only increments by 1 minute when you change locations, so there's plenty of time to think about your next action. Another nice thing is that you get to permanently keep 1 item in your inventory on reset, so you don't have to repeat the same actions and conversations each time. Getting to ending 1 of 10 took me 2hrs, so I would guess total playtime may take somewhere around 10-15? Pretty cool, try it.

Slay the Princess is pretty good, can confirm.

The way the game works, even getting to the 'proper ending' is only seeing half the game so it's pretty replayable too. Moreso (or at least jumping back through your saves) if you're into achievement hunting. You could do worse with 7ish hours of your time, 15ish for 100% (especially if you listen to all the voice acting).

Cool idea, p ugly though and I don't really play co-op games because I'm a misanthrope

The Vale was a sort of an adventure game, with equipment, quests, and a basic combat system all navigated by hearing alone. Very cool because blind people can play, but actually a cool experience for anyone. Despite not having graphics I'm guessing they aren't cheap to make though, must be tons of work recording, mixing and mapping all the sounds.

True but a counterpoint to make is that Sweeny is still drinking the metaverse kool-aid and is now paying companies to put their old games on steam even though the target audience for these games (old school PC Master Race) has likely already purchased these game on Steam and/or GoG. Likely resulting Epic even more money in the long term.
