IEC Site 113 Progress Report #001 0700. We have arrived at the Construction Site with our full complement of labourers healthy and ready to begin construction. The foundations of Site 113 appear to have been prepared exactly as ordered. Construction materials were not properly stored and catalogued before the initial labour force was disengaged. The time spent correcting this failing will put us behind schedule by an unknown amount.  Sir, our employer, the Imperial Exploration Company, has prepared the site for us. Besides digging the enormous shaft for the underground part of the Generator, they left some construction materials behind to get us started. We should set up camp and clear the area around the shaft to make space for the construction facilities. Our first priorities are to prepare the site and prepare the infrastructure which will facilitate the construction of the Generator. It is currently 10 degrees centigrade and we enjoyed a hearty meal before disembarking the ships that brought us here. The assembly of shelter and food infrastructure will be pushed back by one day.   In order to improve motivation among the labour force, a vote was taken. The most common request was to have a regulation Public House built, a frivolity which will make up for its own resource cost with labour efficiency excited by heightened morale.   I have designated the space up to a radius of ten Imperial yards away from the foundational aperture to be occupied by construction-related buildings only. Edifices such as the Public House must be erected outside of this radius, whereas Gathering Posts will be placed within it as they are directly contributing to construction efforts at this time.  0923. Work began at 0800 sharp after nearly all of the unskilled labour force were assigned to material collection duties. The Gathering Post that was built will multiply the efficiency of this endeavour.  The remainder, mostly skilled technicians and engineers, will soon be given workshop space to improve the efficiency of our efforts over time.   In compensation for having to sleep on the ground tonight, IEC employees will have their recreational Public House built early.  1527. In order to expedite on-site research, all available avenues have been organized into three categories: Generator Construction, Food and Health, and Resources. Improvements in each will be critical to ensure the success of this project.  Allows us to build a Profiles Manufacture and produce Structural Profiles required to build the Generator. Our first objective in Generator Construction will be to build a Profiles Manufacture, where unskilled workers will be able to produce components for the Generator according to a prepared template.  Allows us to build Foragers' Quarters and form a team of foragers. In order to secure food we will have a foraging team find a semi-permanent food source off-site to bring us raw ingredients, which will be rendered on-site.    Allows us to build Docks and unload resources from ships. Thanks to better tools and methods, resources from piles of Coal, Wood and Steel will be gathered 10% faster. Allows us to build Sawmills. On-site food production will be achieved through means of fishing docks constructed right off our nearby shoreline. Wood will be extracted from the surrounding forests. However, in order to get progress back on schedule our first priority is to clear the job site as quickly and efficiently as possible.  1714. According to my projections, efficient gathering techniques and a second gathering post will ensure the job site should be clear by tomorrow.  It is also likely some of the labourers will fall ill overnight as they sleep out in the cool air. A medical post will see to getting them back to work as quickly as possible.  As the first workday ends, people start gathering in small groups to chat or play cards. A couple of workers are throwing rocks down the huge central shaft. "Deep, ain't it? And to think we have to work down there." Out of boredom, or maybe to exorcise their fears, more workers join in. Soon, rocks start raining down the hole. This might be dangerous, but... the camp offers very little other entertainment. 1900. Some of the workers took to unproductive forms of recreation. They were reminded that the Public House exists for the purpose of productive recreation and encouraged to seek their entertainment at the sanctioned establishment.   0100. To discourage such destructive behaviours another vote will be taken. The labour force responded positively to the last such activity. I believe morale will continue to improve so long as such liberties are afforded.   Nothing relieves tension better than watching a few rounds of an all-out slugfest. Our hard-working people deserve all the relief we can provide, and some of them yearn for the pleasures of the flesh. The construction of "The Hole," as the Public House is now colloquially known, has afforded us new opportunities for sanctioned recreational activities. Which Law do you wish to see enacted?

IEC Site 113 Progress Report #002 0103. Results of the poll taken of the workers have been tallied.   The majority of respondants cited cleanliness and lack thereof as the biggest priority.  Regulation Bath Houses will be provided in order to mitigate this concern.   Sir, a few of our people got a cold from sleeping on the ground. We should provide them with some kind of accomodations, if only because this might impact our efficiency in the long run. 0442. Three IEC employees have taken ill from sleeping out in the chill air. A medical tent has already been assembled and a team of medics is reassigned from research to return them to work as soon as possible. Sleeping accomodations will be provided for all employees within two days.  1016. Research of faster gathering techniques is completed behind schedule due to aforementioned reassignment of research team. Priority is given to developing a sawmill design to source on-site lumber.  1115. Cookhouse is designated to be built to convert on-hand raw food units. Priority labour allocation continues to be gathering of construction material and simultaneous clearing of the job site.  1540. Sawmills allow for lumber harvesting following depletion of wood piles. Workshop precedence is redirected to off-site food acquisition.  1648. Resource collection is nearly finished but will not be completed on schedule. Nevertheless, a gathering post is deemed redundant and disassembled. New projections show Profiles Manufacture production will begin as early as tomorrow.  1917. Construction of employee housing has begun. Motivation and discontent remain a concern. Although a bathhouse has not yet been requisitioned it has been decided that another vote will be taken.   We could house more people if we cut the space allowance a bit, although nobody is going to be happy about it. We could make our people happy, providing them with more space in their living quarters at the cost of reduced housing capacity. New available laws concern the allocation of space in our upcoming housing facilities. For the sake of efficiency, all IEC employees are now requested to vote for up to three (3) items, inclusive. As these are certain to have a direct positive impact on morale and efficiency both proposals were given the stamp of approval.   The first of the new laws enacted will not take effect until a new source of raw food has been obtained. The workers are looking forward to it.   1032. New sawmills are placed to ensure the income of lumber does not slow.  You overhear two workers arguing over the reality of the global cooling: "You really believe this end-of-the-world rubbish? Me, I'm just here for the money. When we're done with this mad scheme, I can move my family out of St. Giles." "Well, then you're a fool, because you'll all die when the frost comes." Now that we have built the basic resource infrastructure, we can set about bringing more people and Steam Cores from England. To do this we have to build the Telegraph Station. To facilitate communications more effective than flag signals a telegraph station is required. In particular this will clear my desk of the backlog of unsent progress reports.   2003. Critical infrastructure having been established, generator construction may now begin in earnest. Another vote will be taken among the work force in celebration. Currently available options are Chapel, On-Site Burials or Repatriation of Bodies, Overcrowding or Extra Rations for the Ill, Care House, Bare-Knuckle Bouts, and House of Pleasure.
