They're both losers but the Nets on any given season might have better players or have a better record. The Clippers though, who the gently caress would pick them, at least before this streak? It's not like someone could even say that their arena is closer and/or better.

the one thing I'll give the Clippers is I like homeboy's idea for a season pass compared to traditional season tickets. the idea is you can get like three-five people to go in on two season tickets at a lower price, but the tickets can only be used by the people on the pass, so no reselling to visiting fans. he wants to get in younger fans who don't usually have the money for season/partial season tickets, so it lowers the cost of seats on a per-season basis (and if you're sharing seats among a group it lowers the per-game cost as well)and protects the home team from always having more visiting fans for big games. I like it!

it's impressive how quickly we went from virtually no gambling in this country, keeping our collective shame hidden away in LV/AC/reservation casinos, to gambling-sponsored sports media, official league partnerships, and constant advertising on daytime network television while being able to gamble via credit card on your cell phone 24/7. remember this when politicians say that societal change takes a long time

Maybe it would have taken w/o COVID, it would have been a bigger deal for longer probably during the trabsition

Only way it's gonna change at this point is when the inevitable massive match (and statistics) fixing scandal gets uncovered. It's either already happening at scale or developing rn, the profit incentive is way too strong with how loose & non-existent state oversight of the industry is. I just wonder which sport is going to pop first.

the refs in the Bulls/Raps game were gambling. go back and watch those final three minutes and tell me they weren’t.

TenementFunster posted:NFL has the most interest/money but NBA has so many games that it feels like there is more opportunity there. NBA refs seem more crooked, too. just look at Eric Lewis's "retirement," or even refs having stupid but obvious beefs with specific player (Scott Foster and Chris Paul). those guys were just homers/haters. imagine what they could do with a profit movie The NBA is tailor made for a points shaving scandal. It has the fewest players of any of the major sports, any player can get the ball at any time, and has the most games of any sport short of baseball. The only thing keeping it from happening is that the players who get significant minutes tend to be extremely well compensated (the flip side of the small number of players), so it would likely take something like a guy getting compromised in college then getting drafted and having the screws put to him once he's in the league.

maybe but you be surprised how much the point guards on even the worst teams makes for example Marcus smart is earning 18 million this year

It'd have to be a vet at the end of their career, the kind of guy who gets minutes because someone's gotta get them but knows that after their current contract is over, they're gonna have to go overseas because they're on the down slope. Not saying it's a likely thing, but if it was going to happen as a systemic thing, it'd be there. That said, with gambling odds being extremely public, it's hard to see how something big could go unnoticed. Enough weird line movements and folks are gonna start piecing it together. Refs at least get a bit of obfuscation by not reffing the same team 82 games.
