Here's a great video by Technology Connections about TV devices that censored via reading the captions, changing the caption itself and silencing audio the instant the bad word was detected

https://youtu.be/ZiXg6H_FycI?si=4azmDAvK7WU7FFG-

But wait, there's more!

Then a channel called Ben Eater shows up, from start to end, shows how to reverse engineer the censor device and dump the ROM showing the dictionary of the bad words and what they would be replaced by.

https://youtu.be/a6EWIh2D1NQ?si=g_O5FfaqTizBEX2b

technology connections is the pinned comment of that video

If you're at all interested in how computers work, Ben Eater's channel is great.

I got about 60% through building his bread board computer before I gave up due to ADHD, but it was super fun and it inspired me to learn how to solder.

What is the actual name of that rubbery coating that tons of turn of the century electronics used and always breaks down over the years into a sticky mess? Or do rubbery coatings still do that and I just don't have anything with it that's old enough?

The mainboard from the bread bin got transplanted into the South Australian C64 case that I got from fellow goon Bargearse. Going to grab some heatsinks for all the components since other than the SID and (maybe, but haven't checked) VIC II being socketed, all the other chips are directly soldered onto the board.

That South Australian C64 case has come up pretty well there, I know it was in pretty rough shape when I gave it to you. It wasn’t in any better shape when I got it, I didn’t do anything with it for fear of making it worse.

I’ve finally gotten my tech relic room set up and I’m planning to finally sort out the garage this weekend. Pics incoming when I get home from work.

Next I’m planning to clean up my Apple IIc and give it a good run.
