Star Theaters, Southfield, Michigan; circa 1997. I’ve been to this one before! It was spectacular back in the day. It closed down permanently three years ago, unrelated to the pandemic.

Gonz posted:Star Theaters, Southfield, Michigan; circa 1997. We went to this theater all the time when I was a kid. I think the first movie we watched there was Men in Black. It was also where we saw Titanic, Star Wars prequels, Lord of the Rings, and many more legendary films of the late 90s and early 2000s. The theater was awesome when it opened but eventually became rundown. In addition to the 20 screens, it also had restaurants, stores, and an arcade. I remember it opened with a Johnny Rockets but there was at least 2-4 more available spaces for restaurants to lease. A second, called Volcano Grill, opened a few years later. I don't remember the food (maybe TexMex?)or how long it lasted. The rest of the vacant spaces were never filled in the 2+ decades the theater operated. A few random retail shops came and went over the years. Zero One has a new favorite as of 00:47 on Oct 4, 2023 |

I was watching old training videos on youtube and came across what is probably one of the most 90s things ever https://youtu.be/MbVDQKcxg00?si=oxsoV6OjP-Np-kPm Its dated and cringy as hell, but you know what, i bet that helped wendy's employees remember the method for cooking the burger patties.

Wood paneling, heavy carpeting, and ugly rear end wallpaper as far as the eye can see. that reminds me of something I saw one of the set designers of Stranger Things say about setting the different kids’ houses in order to reflect their diverse living situations/family income levels/parents’ personalities/etc: a normal house in 1983 with teen kids is gonna have a ton of stuff from the 70s and before in it. An inexpensive used car in 1983 is gonna be from 1979 or 1977. Family heirlooms and stuff bought as wedding gifts or early in a marriage or in college or gifted from the childhood home is gonna be from the 60s or 50s. Stuff thrifted or bought used can be from any time. Wealthier families are as likely to have really high quality stuff from when mom + dad got married as they are to have the state of the art

Back in the early 90s the Sci Fi channel had a weekly genre news show and like 60 Mins they hired a tired crank to give options pieces. For this they hired Harlan Ellison and give him free reign to talk about whatever was bothering him ib the industry this week. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn5mSh00tKGGwiZ0CsZvWAzA0M2xQn8jA&si=vwWipMsz7EKMzSvS Almost all the topics are pretty 90s as gently caress.
