Hey Jealousy is one of the best songs of the 90’s (shares the spotlight with Everlong) but sadly it is the GB’s only good song. Found Out About You is ok but it’s too slow and doesn’t have a good hook.

hey jealousy is one of the saddest things humans have ever created, in a good way. especially when you find out the line "you can trust me not to think" was originally "you can trust me not to drink" and that dude got fired from the band and died of alcoholism before the album's release. the whole thing is a desperate, emotionally manipulative cry for help from a man drowning in his disease, to an ex lover whose only choices are to push him away or drown with him

Hopkins reluctantly agreed to these demands because of his dire financial situation. Sorry where's the "in a good way" part come in?

I think his family spoke about it as sort of an additional level of 'gently caress you" tragedy.

It's in that realm with "American Girl" where it would sound good redone as any genre but I would pay money for someone like KD Lang to do to it what she did to Hallelujah or Tori Amos with Smells Like Teen Spirit (turn the overwrought button to 11 and rip the knob off).

One time in college I was at Howl at the Moon with a group of friends at Universal CityWalk and the guys doing the songs were like "we have free gin blossoms tickets for this weekend for the first person who can name a song by them other than hey jealousy" and I said "found out about you" and I won the tickets I was supposed to go with my neighbor because she was the only person I could find who also liked them but I ended up getting way too day drunk the day of the show and when it was time to go I was like no way am I making it to Hollywood and being out in public for like another 3 hours I'll be the guy pissing himself on the subway so I told her to go without me but she didn't want to go without me and we just missed the show and she got real mad at me. That is my story about the time I almost saw Gin Blossoms

Aphrodite on a Barstool is also from that album, and is a good song but an all-time song title. The way the rest of the band just kept going is gross. Hopkins wrote every food song.

i do have to hand it to hoskins though, reacting to receipt of a gold record by throwing it in the trash and dying is 90s as gently caress. even operation ivy just broke up in response to a major label record deal, nobody actually died

The band was so shorthanded without him that they had to bring in a ringer (Marshall Crenshaw) for their last great song (Till I Hear it from You). kntfkr posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMIecwPGWc8 Started up sounded like they would do something interesting sonically, but gently caress these guys and gently caress this cover.
