i made the mistake of telling Alexa to "play criminal minds on Amazon" and it auto played the first HD season, 2 seasons ahead of where i am in the show. and now the "recently watched" section permanently assumes I want to continue s4e1, and there's no button I can hit there to see other episodes, nor a button when the episode is playing to see other episodes. I have to search for criminal minds all over again to get to a result I can select an episode from. gently caress piss poo poo i need to figure out a piracy solution for my tv asap

So Buffalo Wild Wings just added 2FA to their “Blazin Rewards” accounts. Definitely gotta protect those chicken wings loyalty points from hackers. In no way is this an attempt to collect your phone number to sell to scamcenters.

Amazons UI was one of the reasons I bothered to set up plex/usenet/sonarr/radarr/a networked attached storage. Might have even been the final straw it was just so bad at the time.

The recent subtitle chat really made me appreciate Plex, you can add subs from the OpenSubtitles directory without even stopping playback.

I switched to Emby, which also, started charging for stuff. Emby is what jellyfin forked from. So far Emby is ok, I don't see stuff that isn't on my server, so I'm not in a huge rush to migrate to jellyfin.

Plex only charges for beta channel, does it not? Either way I bought a lifetime subscription years ago for 75$ It is enshitifying for sure with social features, and the Plex channels and live tv, but for now that’s all easy enough to turn off. Mostly I just hate that the ui gets worse and worse every update.

Game mode on my Samsung TV actually makes the sound lag by about 150 ms on my Xbox series x. Even if I turn off game mode, it turns itself back on every time you start the Xbox.

I had a problem like that once. Game mode wasn't causing the lag it was actually fixing the lag but just for video. Audio was still lagging behind and it was really noticeable once the video was (relatively) lag free. Turns out compressed audio like Dolby Digital was lagging behind but uncompressed audio like PCM wasn't. So I just switched all my sources to PCM audio and went from there. But if you have a surround sound setup beware because it can be really tricky to get anything other than stereo PCM though a bunch of HDMI pass throughs.

There was sports on TV, the TV would change to Sport mode and the amplifier would switch to stadium mode - which wasn't ideal for chess, but it worked. There was a movie on TV, the TV switched to cinema settings and the amplifier switched to theatre sound. Turning on my PS3 and PS4 switched the TV and amp to game mode. Play something with Dolby sound, the amplifier switches to Dobly. Play something with DTS sound, amplifier switched to DTS. Everything worked with the TVs remote over HDMI CEC, and I could use it to control the TV, amplifier and game consoles. I would go on forums and laugh at the morons who thought CEC was bad and couldn't get it to work because my setup was so perfect. Then in 2018 I decided to upgrade to 4K, and bought a Samsung TV and Onkyo amp. It's been hell since then trying to get everything to work together. Everything has to be unplugged 1-2 times per month just to reset so everything will talk to each other again over CEC. You have to tell the amp what every sound format is, so that it doesn't accidentally play an atmos track through a DTS decoder or a Dolby 5.1 track in stereo mode. When I turn on my PS5, I can play for a couple of minutes, and then my android box turns on and steals the input. I was really excited for how my 2011 setup could possibly be better when I decided to upgrade, and this was the answer.

My lovely fuckin sound system that I hate and regret buying has "theater," "arena," and maybe some other sound settings, and all I can really figure out is that all settings except for NORMAL seem to just try to remove vocals, like I'm trying to do karaoke or something

You might check if there's an option to define your speaker setup.

I just grabbed a printer for $10 at my local Savers, poo poo works great and still has ink in it. When I no longer need it I'll drop it off at the same exact Savers, probably still with ink in it. I can understand buying a new laser jet for your business or whatever, but I have no idea why anyone would buy a new one for personal use when there are just loving piles of barely-touched inkjet printers at every thrift store in the country.

It's so good, but I have very little faith that it's going to stay that way. Thankfully, Jellyfin is catching up fast, so I think it will be viable by the time Plex is permanently enshittified.

Jellyfin forked from Emby, which is the older and more complete version. I can't speak to every difference between them, but Emby works fine enough for now and its UI on the Fire stick doesn't have any bloat that I remember seeing.

I cooked a vegetarian gnocci for dinner tonight and it was pretty good but would have tasted so much better with ham or chicken or tortoise or something. Anyway meat prices are hosed up. Also all prices are hosed up. $14 for a footlong meatball sub wtf. There's basically no meat in there to begin with.
