I believe harden said Morey lied about trading him to the clippers ? well he’s on the clippers so it’s more likely harden really meant Morey lied about giving him a max deal this past summer. I don’t believe Morey ever told harden he would give him a max deal. maybe he did

Morey almost certainly figured that someone would be willing to give him more than a couple decent draft picks and expiring contracts to make the salaries work. When reality hit, he couldn't go to Harden and ask him just to be patient, he'd told Harden he'd be gone long before that and then things spiralled from there.
