There’s some film stuff in the first season. And the opening credits are shot on film. I don’t know how much you’re really going to get. It will probably look better, but not amazing.

For all the issues of the 4K, I couldn't say no to the American Graffiti Steelbook. It's such a good-looking case, and replacing my Blu and getting digital on top of it is a bonus. Maybe I'll be lucky and they'll do a UHD replacement program but I doubt it. Best Buy has a lot of neat things today. They're doing a big push for Gran Turismo, and my local even had the Criterion release of The Others.

Since it was recorded in PAL, if you're in the US an HD release might be better than what you saw in a US broadcast or DVD release, since PAL has 100 extra vertical lines (afforded by the lower field rate). It does make a difference, having ripped all my DVDs for Jellyfin, the PAL ones do look sharper. I've also seen tricks to deinterlace old TV format by jumping to a faster progressive framerate (like actual 50fps), and updating each frame with half the field from the interlaced signal, making for quite smooth output. Basically even if it's tape I'd expect some effort to make it look nice in HD.

SRS Cinema has announced that they’re getting out of the VHS game, and this Black Friday sale will have all their remaining VHSs on clearance. Including titles that officially sold out ages ago, they dug out every last VHS. So this is your last chance to get actually good movies Legend of the Stardust Brothers or Day of Destruction, and a bunch of interesting low budget kaiju movies like Howl From Beyond the Fog and Monster Seafood Wars, on VHS ever.

Is there a way to tell if I received a countefeit copy of a disc from Amazon? I got Past Lives, but it was packaged in its own plastic separate from the other disc in the order and it doesn't have the digital code slip inside, which makes me concerned that it's a counterfeit or at least repackaged somehow. Any tips?

I know this is sacrilege, but I might actually buy 0 movies this Black Friday. I’ve had my eye on something that’s somewhat more expensive that I think I’ll get more enjoyment out of, and I’m trying to be a more responsible adult and divert more money into my savings. On top of that, the blu-ray app tells me I’ve got 387 movies that I own but haven’t watched yet - most of those are movies I’ve seen before but haven’t watched that particular edition yet, although I have some blind-buys in there that I haven’t watched yet. I should probably watch some of the stuff I’ve got in order to justify having bought them (and I’ve been making a concerted effort to do so recently) instead of just adding to the pile.
