Thinking more about this, this is probably my fault, because earlier on I had a theory about open-source software that I kept harping on where I posited that good UX and consistent design doesn't happen in software you're not getting paid to create. Design requires money. Open-source stuff is written by hobbyists and tinkerers in their spare time who just need to get it going, with spit and baling wire, every project the domain of its own quirky iconoclastic maverick who assumes and hoards power due to the fact that they're not answerable to any paycheck-signing boss. Every time someone in an open-source project decides they have a better idea than you do about how the UX should work, they just fork it off and make their own version with blackjack and hookers, and you end up with Gnome and KDE and Nautilus and sixteen other flavors of environment none of which really work because they weren't properly designed by UX specialists, but tacked on by guys whose first love is the nuts-and-bolts backend stuff that directly meets a functional need and whose human interface is an afterthought at best. That's open-source / free software, and if you want actual UI quality and design and workflow, you have to be part of a real company that pays you a salary and employs people whose specialty is to do that kind of design work, not just people who fancy themselves able to do the easy UX stuff once they're done with the nitty-gritty kernel hacking they really enjoy. That was my theory anyway (obviously I think it's a terrible oversimplification at best now), and I think this guy took it and ran with it to say "You need an autocratic despot in charge of UX and design and to crack the whip on all his underlings so they don't get out of line, otherwise you'll just end up with more bifurcation and chaos and overall crappy UI. That's what Jobs did and it's what Elon does" Then he just looks past godawful Tesla design decisions and SpaceX failures because who the gently caress knows I guess. Never have theories, is my new theory
