Apparently heat causes this residue to turn to vapour, and I just so happen to be sitting next to a heat lamp for reasons and it seems to be helping a lot, but obviously I have to keep a very close eye on it

Question about boarding actions in 10th ed; I've read the document that they put out but still confused if the stratagems and other rules in the books are still usable, or if just strictly the ones given in the PDF. Is there any point at all to getting Ark of Omens books?

Wait lol, it loses its Outrider Escort ability if it's in the Outrider unit...

Edit... Outriders seem ok in stormlance, the chaplain gets much needed AP on his attack when charging, 5 S8 attacks on 2+ with +1 to wound and -3 AP will put a decent dent in most things before the rest of the squad get some licks in. And the Devastating Wounds ability for shooting is good for a handful of mortals with the twin linked bolt rifles to fish for those 6s. Durability they have the - 1 to hit and - 1 to wound and there's also a reactive move strat.

Sadly there’s no source of AP in stormlance. They’re still bad in it - really the only viable mounted units in marines are space wolves. Outriders are unredeemable.

I understand that the imperial guard lists of the moment are artillery heavy, but would a Christmas box and 40 more cadians with Leontus to 1k do the job? I'd probably just dump in my Knight Lancer for 1.5k games for a while because it owns and never gets to play.

it's even funnier than that: the Stormlance strat to improve mounted melee gives the unit Lance, which is basically useless with a Chaplain in the unit because you can never have more than +1 to wound

Can't relate, the guard patrol box was the cheapest purchase, I've spend more money on paint and supplies.

But besides that, looking at the official guard regiments and I'm not seeing a lot of space France representation here.

They’re a western front pastiche. The canon regiments even have a mix of grey and blue schemes. And notably the fist round of siege of Vraaks guys got a german regiment name and feldgrau studio paint jobs.

The reason there’s no space french is that GW is british, op

Sisters of Battle have copious fleurs de lis, they're definitely space Catholic nuns first and foremost but they definitely lean French Catholic.

To the extent that much of British royalty was French for a long stretch of time, the Dark Angels are French (Lion'el Johnson is King Richard the Lionheart, who was basically French).

As others have said, the original blue-gray color scheme makes it clear that the Death Korps of Krieg is WWI French. They've drifted since then into a mishmash of WWI, but they're originally French for sure.

Arbitor Ian on YouTube has a good video on the real world influences of the main Imperial Guard regiments:

Mounted knights are not getting a new kit. However the foot knights have been designed so that their parts are compatible with their mounted buddies.

Rather than buying alot of models now, it's much better to have bought minis in the past and then keep them unassembled in a box for a decade or more. That way you're really proud of yourself when you eventually get around to doing something with them, like this Space Marines combat patrol I finished just now. :)

Crosspost from the painting thread:

I have skimmed through a lot of this thread and have kinda been wanting to try this out for a while, and when I do I’m just going to decide on a combat patrol set.

My question is, my GF’s brother mentioned how he also wants to try it out and expressed how cool he thinks the Necrons are. He got us a very generous early Christmas present and I’d like to repay the favor. I haven’t been able to find any sort of Combat Patrol for Necrons, so I assume they either don’t make it or stopped making it
I’m guessing I’ll have to cobble together a few boxes to make an equivalent that he could play against what ever Combat Patrol army I choose? Any suggestions there?

Necrons don't have a combat patrol box, but there is one coming out soonish. If you can wait a bit, it will save you a lot of money.
I don't know the details, but a friend of mine said that buying all the units separately was a bit tricky.

You can probably find an old Imdomitus box (or just the necron half) for pretty cheap, I think that comes with everything you'd need for the new combat patrol and then some.

Heres a reasonably priced option:

Cadians are really similar to the designs for the infantry from Starship Troopers, but the timing doesn't work out for them to be actually ripped off. I guess they have a common inspiration, probably the Colonial Marines from Aliens.

Definitely a big Aliens influence, as well as general WW2 aesthetics. I was mostly tongue-in-cheek with that, but they are a mishmash of a bunch of different militaries.
