Thanks everyone for the suggestions to the home sub. I'll check it out. Contractor is here and I actually understand the issue better now. Situation sucks, but I'm not sure there's any incompetence or gently caress up. Though one of the lessons learned is: Don't mess with something that is working. Which is a dangerous line to walk in many regards, yet would have saved me thousands of dollars in this case.
