Husband and I are most active on there.

Do you still need an invite? If no one is on in YOGS, send a tell to:

varsoon.margaritas or varsoon.sprout

You can also cross server add to friends list, so add those two to your friends list. I'll camp over and invite you.

Got a note about being able to try out the Lore & Legends/Kael Drakkel server for free so I made a Defiler and hopped in. Gotta say, pretty overwhelming the amount of abilities I have. I do like that they give you a message when you first log in with your character that welcomes you to the server and tells you where to go to get started leveling. I guess the best thing to do is to watch some YouTube videos detailing rotations for any class I want to play because lol almost 6 full bars worth of abilities.

I've been playing a wizard off and on since a couple years after launch and I have basically no idea what most of the buttons do. At one point years ago I sorted everything in my hotbar by damage and haven't touched it since.

I've experienced zero problems in solo or small group content.

I was in my first group today for Kaladim, and I can confirm that you don't need to know what your abilities do lol. It was so chaotic and things died so quickly that sometimes I didn't even get a single ability off on a pull. 28 BST/28 Provisioner on Majdul. Char name is Symo if anyone else is on the server.

What do you mean by ground spawns? Harvesting nodes for raw materials? Shinys(collectables)? Not typically no. Harvesting nodes tend to be clustered in regions on a map so if you know where they are you can just look around. But there are items like the gnomish diving rods that will allow you to track, select and plot a waypoint to a node, harvesting node or shiny. But they have a reuse time and are single use consumables so it's kind of cumbersome.

If you're just soloing or doing small group play you can ignore like 1/2 to 2/3 of your abilities. The hard part is figuring out which ones.

Honestly on my Wizard I filled the first hotbar with damage spells in order of damage. Whatever didn't fit after the first twelve buttons just doesn't go on a hot bar. My second hot bar is offensive cool downs on the left, defensive/utility cool downs on the right. The third hot bar has travel and/or cosmetic stuff on it.

If hotbar bloat is overwhelming you from playing then just ignore it. It'll be fine. Then take it more seriously when you're ready for it.

If you are playing on a live server, yes. One of the Tradeskill AAs will allow you to track collectibles and harvestables:

when you say "smart macros" are you talking like eq1 style multibinds where you just keybind a dozen abilities to one keyboard key?

yeah exactly. all i mean by smart in this case is just setting the macros up correctly format-wise and in terms of organizing abilities, and also never macroing actual critical skills you cant just get away with spamming

when i raided on my assassin in KA (peak button bloat thanks to loving ascensions) i had like 3 'filler' macros (single target, dots, AOEs), then special attacks i had to hit in response to procs were separate, as well as ascension abiliites and debuffs

two best practices ive seen for it are either:

sort all your skills in order of priority with HO opener at the end

sort your skills like

skill 1
skill 2
skill 3
skill 2
skill 1

in the macro

cause eq2 is weird and will try to queue up the first and last things in a macro every time it is pushed

Paxman
Feb 7, 2010

From what I recall, if you put /clearabilityqueue at the top of the macro and mash it, it will work the way you probably want it to. Ie it will just cast the top spell/ability below the command that is not on cooldown

So if all you ever want to do is cast the spell with the biggest damage that you can, you can play with one button more or less

Is this going to be a true 2006 version of Everquest II? Because these have been done before for EQ2, and they were just the base game with a bunch of stuff disabled, but there were even playable races that were available that weren't originally.

Yeah, based on other dev posts it seems to be running on LU19 2006 (that was the earliest version they could find). So some things like early class quests (scout/mage/fighter/priest starter into specialized class) aren't there since they were removed by 2006. I'm intrigued by the no Kronos, but I'm sure that will eventually get removed.

This could potentially be pretty fun. A shame about the class quests. Does that mean they will also remove the system that gives you the ability to progress into your final class? Wasn't it something like Fighter -> Crusader -> SK, instead of just starting with SK?

Yeah that's how it used to be. Sad those won't be in, but that's still my around my favorite years of EQ2.

Just hanging out in a dungeon with a group killing nameds and getting loot is something you can't really do in MMOs anymore because everyone has switched to WOW style instances.

I enjoyed the heritage quests too, even if I didn't use many of them once I got them.

Heard some concerning things about the origins 2006 server. Like it's not going past KoS. The dev in discord answered the question "Where do players go after KoS?" with the answer "Live". So just a heads up on that for people interested.

that is super worrisome yeah. KoS is one of my fave expacs but uhhh i like EoF a lot too... and other stuff beyond... tbh id like one of them to get up to ToV (which IMO is the last time eq2 was really 'good') but.. i doubt that'll happen. what's the farthest one has gotten so far? was it DoV?

its a shame i havent really had time, i would have loved to replay Sentinel's Fate.

All the way up through Kunark seemed like some great times in EQ2 to me, after that I only ever tried progression servers for a bit.

I'll still probably give it a go though, maybe if it's successful there will be player interest in going further.

Heard talk there was an update to the Origins Kos -> Live response. Claims that more ex packs will be population dependent, but they reserve the right to yank the cord anytime after KoS if the server isnt busy enough. so, maybe thats a little better?

i think it's that time for me to return to eq2 (seasonally), idk if ill be loving w/ the new tlp server or messing with live. live is a loving mess but kind of works better for my limited time & need for solo play, but i miss the impactfulness of individual classes that started to be phased out over later expacs and it sounds like that situation is worse than ever on live.

I haven't played Live since Kunark came out, it seemed to move even further away from what I enjoyed about EQ2. I especially hate all the dumb looking cash shop poo poo everyone is running around in.

IMHO Echoes of Faydwer through Kunark were peak EQ2.

man i do not think i can actually gently caress with the live servers. i got my mystic to 125. numbers are insane. i have billions of hp, millions of ab mod, almost 1m pot. the markets are super hosed. krono are over 20b now.

my hotbars are so loving packed, even accounting for me knowing how to macro in order to condense bars, and this character doesn't even have their ascensions set up yet.

it's just INTENSELY overwhelming. yeah, numbers are relative and all that, but it feels so bad... the only real upside is that it's not actually hard to schlep through the game and actually play it. also the new outdoor zones are very pretty and seem thoughtfully put together.

i think my absolute limit for this game in terms of enjoyment is kunark ascending. i had complaints about AoM and ToT, sure, but KA is where it really fell apart to me and became unapproachable.

TLE is DEFINITELY the way to go. i am legit tempted to mess with current TLE but they're mid-SF and i kind of iwsh i had joined at the start of or before SF... anasthi sul might be cool but also might be too much for me time-wise.
