Let me tell you about my opinion about Bernie Sanders and why Donald Trump is his true successor.

You cannot vote Hillary Clinton because she is worse than Trump.
Lol how embarrassing. China keeps winning and canada keeps losing. What a loving pathetiv country.

Now you got the national post saying that the spying wasn't really spying. This is only months after we had to endure daily coverage accusing every Asian politician and official that even glances at a ccp member as being a spy.

There are over 800 articles on cbc.ca/news about the Michaels, but yeah I don't think the issue caught on in popular consciousness for some reason. Maybe the government should have paid for ads in the Epoch Times.

People are either snobs and act like they don’t understand you or they’re hyper friendly and want you to know they visited all of Canada (montreal and Quebec City)

Under the radar, but it looks like the Art Gallery of Ontario quietly fired their first ever Indigenous art curator Wanda Nanibush last week after she apparently posted pro-Palestine content. A bunch of Toronto arts people that are related to the org Israel Museum and Arts, Canada wrote a letter to head curator Stephen Jost, where they very kindly questioned her credentials to talk about Indigeneity and suggested Arabs are barbarian invaders:

https://twitter.com/isisnaucratis/status/1727023569790751020

She's been quietly scrubbed from the website and there have been no public announcements. There's an email floating around where Jost confirms Nanibush out without mentioning why. Anyways, add it to the list of curatorial upheavals and failures of liberal anti-colonial performativity that have plagued every major art institution in this country for years, I guess

Fine art is cool and all but art museums seem to exist in Canada largely as a means of money laundering and/or tax shelters for the wealthy, so, it's hard for me to care about their internal policies any more than, like, purebred horse racing or something.

It's a shame that the lady lost her job I guess

Sure. All the buying and selling of art through major public galleries is done by charitable donations or charitable purchases, all of which is tax deductible. You also get to potentially buy an appreciating asset if the painting / sculpture or whatever increases in value, which you can later flip at a profit.

There's also some crap about capital gains in this that I don't entirely understand because I find tax law really boring and zoned out a bit when it was explained to me.

Source: a colleague of mine worked on the board of a major art museum in the GTA and he basically did so solely to
1. Reduce his taxes and
2. Get first dibs on all the art moving through the gallery.

He explained the scam to me in full, years ago, but I forgot a bunch of details.

ah, okay.

do you think there's any value in public access to art or curated collections, despite the machinations behind the scenes?

I like the AGO and the fact that you can get an annual pass for $35 but the way the disgustingly wealthy use it to launder their reputations (and the ridiculous speculation in art in general) is very offputting.
