I plan to transfer Plex operations to a superior system with a better GPU and CPU, but I'm waiting until I have time to bond the two Ethernet jacks. I encountered challenges with a guide I attempted to follow, like the example article linked, but keep failing. fortunately, the first method proved non-permanent and cleared on reboot.

I think most people over estimate how much bandwidth streaming media takes. Direct playing 50 Mbps streams that's still about 16 simultaneous streams before network bandwidth becomes a problem. I'd skip the headache of bonding the Ethernet jacks and move machines.

The only time the extra bandwidth is useful is for copying, but following the trash guides you should always be moving your media which is instant.

I found it useful for the directory layout to get all the different pieces of arrs to work together.

Yes but also how to setup hardlinks which is required if you torrent and have to maintain a good ratio.

I'd like to set someone like that up. Is there decent hardware solution that's not too huge to put Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, torrents, etc. on? Like if I just buy a NAS online or something and follow some guides to set it up?

My friends and I teamed up, we set up Windows 11 Pro in a big tower and jammed it with drives, SSD for the OS which backs up to multiple HDDs (which are each JBOD not RAID), then Radarr/Sonarr and Ombi for requests, linked to FrugalUsenet. The Ombi thing is so easy that I showed it to a parent and they instantly bootlegged like a hundred 1950's movies. We do remote admin with Parsec.

Since people are talking about the *arrs maybe this is the right place for my question:

I have had Radarr and Sonarr working well on my Unraid server for several months now, along with Plex. I recently added Overseerr and it seems to be working, with one key issue.

When I add something to my wishlist in Plex, Overseerr correctly marks it as requested, but it doesn't get downloaded. If I check the item in Radarr, it shows as monitored and the manual search will even show the right version preferred, but it doesn't initiate a download.

If I un-monitor and re-monitor the item in Radarr, then it initiates the download right away.

Is there some setting I'm missing here? Is there like a scheduled task or something that I'm too impatient to wait for?

There’s a distinction between setting something as monitored vs setting something as monitored and immediately initiating a search, but I have no idea how to choose which is which, or set a toggle. I have the exact same problem with my Ombi->Lidarr link for music search. Sometimes it triggers a search, sometimes it doesn’t, no idea why.

It also doesn't download if I manually hit "Refresh & Scan" or "Search Movie" in Radarr. Only if I unmonitor and remonitor manually.

quoting myself because I think I might have the answer: manually running the "Plex Watchlist Sync" job seemed to trigger downloads, so I guess that could be edited to run more frequently than the default 15 minutes.

edit: doesn't look like overseerr will let me edit the time on that sync

Yeah, it's worth mentioning that the trash guide wiki mentions specifically not to use Spaceinvader guy's videos for setting up stuff, and they link the Ibracorp videos to use at the bottom of the guide.
Spaceinvader guy is great, it's just that his plex/arr guides don't do the hardlink stuff

DO NOT use the template paths from unRAID or the suggested paths from SpaceInvader One.

SpaceInvader One YouTube guides are great for learning how to start with unRAID or how to set up certain applications - and yes I did and still do use them.

The main reason why he's probably using those paths is because they are predefined in the templates.

quote:

Big Thanks to IBRACORP for noticing this Guide and creating a Video covering this unRAID section.

The reason why I have this video at the end is because I want the users to ACTUALLY LEARN and UNDERSTAND why it's recommended to use this folder structure prior to going straight to a YouTube video.

Should I buy a lifetime Plex plus pass or whatever it's called? I see it's on sale this week but the feature set is not really clear to me. I can already stream remotely on my phone/tablet by going to plex.tv or whatever in a browser instead of the native ap.

I'd say the headline items are DVR, downloads, plexamp, and hardware transcoding. If you care about those then it's worth it.

Plex lifetime pass has been worth it to me solely for Plex amp. If you want to stream your own music, it's the best thing out there right now. I think YouTube music technically can, but a) i don't use YouTube and b) it really wants to play stuff outside your library instead of stuff you specifically uploaded.

I agree with this - SpaceInvader used to suggest creating a downloads share separate from your media share, which created a bunch of unnecessary file copying when Sabnzbd would unpack files. I’ve since created a “data” share with both my media and downloads while loosely following Trash Guides and it solved all my hardlink issues.

I’ve been using Plex for almost a year and it works great for myself and everyone I share with but it was clear when I started that it was already on the path to poo poo town with their streaming service integrating with search and all that. Making the sharing crap opt-in by default is really lame. Maybe 1 or 2 of my friends that use it are even remotely tech savvy so I imagine switching to Jellyfin will be a huge pain in the rear end but at least I’ve been warning them that the day will come sooner than later.

I've started the process of breaking 4k content out into separate libraries and noticed a weird issue. I have a 4k and HD copy of a movie. I start to play one of them for a few minutes and then stop. The movie then appears twice, once for each library, in my Continue Watching panel. Is there a setting for this?
