I think you guys are forgetting that the best part of learning as a kid is that someone else nags you to practice. And that by the time you're an adult you barely remember the time when you really sucked, so it seems easier in retrospect.

I was too broken-brained to really try when I was like 14 when I wanted to, and now I feel like the real opportunity to learn an instrument has passed long ago with the loss of brain plasticity that comes with age. But maybe I should find a cheap electric guitar on Craigslist or whatever and see what I can do. I’ve been out of grad school for eight years, I don’t have an excuse not to be finding a hobby anymore.

I had a real bad one yesterday and ended up catching up on the last like 30 pages of this thread before bed, which genuinely helped a bit. I would like to contribute to this thread's healing aura by dogposting, so here is my brother's wonderful rescue greyhound Casper he can be yuor angle  or a twisted freakin cyclepath  also 3rding the "gently caress it dude, get a guitar" posts. You're currently the youngest you can be. Entry level guitars are better bang/buck than they've probably ever been and the used market seems pretty great at the moment. The guitar threads on here are full of great info and could probably help you pick a good'n. If you have an interest in pretty much any instrument, imo, it's worth the money and time investment to find out if you enjoy it (of course, only if you can afford both), cos working towards being good at an instrument that you love playing kicks so much rear end. god I can't wait for my new short scale bass to get here e: also what Milo and POTUS said

An instructor is awesome and they deserve lots and lots of money and jewels (I am a guitar instructor) but you can grab one of a zillion starter books and with just a little bit of time each day you can actually learn to not suck.

Yeah man, go for it. I started playing bass a few years ago, in my late twenties. I have no particular musical talent, it doesn't run in the family at all, and I only started when I was already well into adulthood, but it's been fun gradually getting better and being able to pick up my bass guitar to play Rock the Casbah or Bro Hymn or whatever else whenever I feel like it. I'm not a prodigy and that's fine, as long as you love music you will enjoy making music, even if it's not perfect.

So, in Dublin yesterday, several people including three little children were attacked by a man with a knife just outside their school. Extremely unblessed obviously. But a very brave Brazilian man, jumped forward and disarmed the attacker just using his motorbike helmet. It turns out he's been working as a deliveroo driver for years here, after his restaurant in Brazil burned down  Anyway, a gofundme was set up, with and initial target of 1,000. I looked at it a few hours ago, and it was around 4,500, which is amazing!
