Grimey Drawer
So, uh, do they not print points in the codexes anymore? Not even the simple lists that they had in the backs of the 9th edition books?

They do not because that's one of the main ways they have to balance the game and that change can happen four times a year, so printing them doesn't really make sense.

true for SM book at least. May or may not print in these next ones, but if they do, I predict it’ll still be replaced by the online ones.

In the SM one there's a QR code that I assume links to the most up to date points list, but probably just the main directory of their downloads section and then you gotta fish for the munitorum field manual and know that's where points are

I started working on the suspension for my old Leman Russ. My original idea of a Sherman style bogey would be really tough to implement, so after looking around I decided on a PzIV style instead.

Here's the prototype:

I still need to add rivets and greenstuff an endcap, but I think it'll look pretty neat.

I thought about trying to add some kind of crossbar at the bottom of the spring, but it seems like too much work for no real benefit. The PzIV bogey is mostly hidden behind the road wheels and I'm not taking the tracks off the model for this. So this is just the suggestion of a suspension.

This is rad as hell.

As much as I want to get started on the World Eaters box, I did start putting together some Warp Talons to flesh out my squad from 5 to 10. My original 5 WTs were the second squad I had painted so it was cool to put the new leader of the squad next to the old one and see the quality difference between my current "lets get through this guy ASAP" and my old "I am going to work on this for 2 days to get it as good as I can."

loving lol

the weird space marine transport armor rules continue to be the dumbest thing.

They finally put in an exception that allows tacticus characters leading firstborn marines ride in rhinos and razorbacks.

Meanwhile a tacticus squad lead by Vulkan He'stan loses access to a transport because he is too short to ride in an Impulsor.

The specific weird thing is from what I can tell all of the other remaining non-terminator firstborn characters in the codex got tacticus except for him.

For the one who asked when they could pre-order the other Christmas Git, you can do that next weekend. Also if you need new Assault Marines, the Mk 6's go up for pre-order as well.

Edit: Lexicanum says X is based on V horus heresy pattern, but it's clearly IV

If you account for the the two being done in different styles, the most notable difference is the chest piece. Followed by the knee pads. I'd say the helmet is almost identical, with the similar design elements.

This probably belongs in the Specialist games thread, but I don't post there anyway and it's 40k related anyway.

Finished painting a tiny Shadowsword today.

If I hadn't a very specific idea for the tiny Baneblade I would've painted it one too, because this was really fun and simple to do with the painting steps I found.
Now I just need to come up with a base for it, because leaving it on its own (like Legions does) feels uninteresting.

Funny enough, I have European Mud and Brown from that line and used them in the past.

But not sure if I want a mud base or something else, trying to find inspiration is surprisingly tricky because Legions has the dullest bases imaginable.
Was almost considering getting a greenstuff cobblestone roller, but the LGS won't be open until the end of the week.

One Day I Will Return To Your Side.
Some thoughts now that I've played a 1000 point game:-

Warhammer is a game that rewards playing it several times in a row, and rewards prepping, because there's quite a few keywords and terms (devastating woulds) that need to be memorized, for an insane person like me I've become familiar with the terms, but people who only play the game occasionally this is a big issue. this person played the game three times, but because the gap between each time for him was massive he had to re-learn alot of concepts and couldnt wrap his head around several keywords, I think sadly this game isnt for him because he didnt look too happy despite the fact that he won the game thanks to his secondaries lol. I think it's because the person has out-of-control ADHD? I'm not sure.

This is frustrating to me, because I want to move to more interesting missions/abilities/enhancements, I want to try doing crusade missions, but I always have to make the game as basic as possible for people to be able to follow, but that's the price I guess for being the literal starter of the local scene here, I should definitely consider doing short travels to places like germany or england to play more complex games and tournaments at some point when I have the money for it.

Also, the language in the rule book needs significant clearing up, it took us far too long to understand the difference between 'Infiltration' and 'Deep Strike' and we treated them both as 'deep strike' before realizing that 'infiltration' is at the setup part of the game. also it took me a long time to help the person understand why 'invulnerable saves' are useful compared to the normal saves

Secondaries add alot to the game and rule.

The jump in complexity is not that high from Combat Patrol but you definitely have to play combat patrol a few times first to wrap your head around basic concepts.

The data cards are worth the investment it helped alot in making the game run smoothly.

Looking forward to the next one!

One thing I do because I play so infrequently is write myself and order of operations for my army.

The turn flowchart is very handy but adding in your own detail like your favourite stratagems to consider, special army rules that occur in that phase, or other general reminders is great.

Isn't there an app or website for this for aos? I wonder if 40k has one?

I think wahapedia sort of does it for 40k by saying when you can use strats, but it's much more convenient to just have a piece of paper with each phase and the things I need to remember on it.

Feel like it was a bit cruel for GW to include the bombast field gun with its giant seam and poor joints in what is supposed to be a starter box.

Then again maybe GW just assumed a grog type person who would find all of that natural.

I think your scheme could really benefit from a contrast color. Nothing large, just like a touch of a brighter shade somewhere to balance the white and metal. Something like a red/blue indicator light or detail somewhere I think would make a big difference. There is also a dedicated painting thread if you want detailed critiques or specific help with something - but keep posting stuff here as well!

I was thinking about this more, and while watching a painting video, an idea hit:

Do you mean the seam on the barrel? I just used plastic cement to seal it over, then a light sanding to clean it up. No greenstuff required.

I do understand that this isn't intuitive in the least though.
