Yeah i love this. There's a reason swedish unions are rather quiet.. because no one has dared gently caress with them for thirty years now.

It ain't perfect over here but there are still social red lines that are firm and deadly. It's also very swedish that they don't make a big fuss about it until someone decides to, say, not have coffee around at all times or something, let alone something as basic as collective bargaining

Yeah sympathy strikes have been illegal in the US since the early 50s iirc which also corresponds with the height of union power in America.

I have a theory that the US was invented just to keep europeans from further discussing any labor or transit issues.

Whatever issue you have in your country there's always an american ready to point out that they can be just fired randomly and they have no worth as a human and no healthcare and then you feel bad about complaining about some problem in your country.

Yeah, but my understanding is othre unions still can't be forced to cross another union's picket line. Like if a building was being a built, and the electricians were on strike, the plumbers couldn't be forced to work in that building.

Not nearly as powerful, but still useful.

While it is true that our government hates its people that actually do the majority of the soul destroying jobs in America and hope we die, you can still want a better life for the work you do in Germany or whatever while realizing it’s nice to not work at a company in America.

I mean, the people in charge of the policies that they are putting in place make hundreds of millions of the US population pretty much live in constant fear.

Well yeah ofcourse every CBA is different. But like, alot of Broadway touring shows have a clause in their contract for Actor's Equity that stipulates IATSE are the stagehands in the venue. If IATSE is on strike, you don't have them in the building, so it's actually a violation of the AEA contract, and they can refuse to perform. poo poo gets weird fast.
