chumash die hard chiefs fans? weird pick geographically, but i guess santa barbara/oxnard folks have a tendency to go for the cowboys because of their training camp, and san fransisco is the 49er's, so that only leaves the rams for non-colonizer mascots locally in any case that's definitely not a headdress warn by the chumash historically, but the ins and outs of intra and inter-tribal politics is crazy enough that i would never want to make a judgment call on what level of appropriation is going on with a coastal california tribe member using a plain's indian style for a sporting event i mean, there are 14 bands of chumash, and they don't always see eye to eye with each other on issues like this, before bringing in someone off of a sioux reservation to add into the discussion

Please keep in mind a portion of the RWM mougle sphere really hates Deadspins guts; as it basically only exists because new owners of the founders previous company bought it to say keep politics out of sports and they said no and quit when their editor got fired. It is an entire right wing culture war project to ensure sports remains a right adjacent pastime. It's very easy to misrepreset a sub only newspaper article. Remember all of this is coming from effectively hostile direct competitors who are incentivised to portray the worst possible version of events. They would call "we should talk about sports teams use of racial loaded imagery" and an example photo as accusing a specific person of being hitler 2. The second one would just be tracking down the subject and repeating claim one, it's not really substantiating it, just saying "someone called you racist, are you racist?" And acting shocked that literally anyone says no and how dare the first person allegedly make that accusation.
