Well, okay, the article says that she was homeschooled, so to play devil's advocate, I could see a version of this happening. A kid in a high-controlling religious upbringing gets their hands on "sinful" material that they enjoy, and pokes around on the internet for this relatively benign thing. Their parents find out because of said high-control, and they're horrifically shamed into thinking that they're an awful wellspring of sin and vice that has brought shame to their family. They spend the rest of their life being incredibly uptight about anything sex-related due to this trauma, and thus feel the need to rail against such public vice such as [shudder] kissing.

Sadly, I have seen this sort of thing play out in real life, I had a friend in college that was escaping an environment where that thing more-or-less happened over Sonic the Hedgehog fanfiction, of all things. (And not in a well-intentioned "Well this is kinda unusual" way, but in the "there shall be no whore that enters the Kingdom of Heaven" way.)

Of course, odds are overwhelmingly that she's just lying for extremely cynical reasons, but there exists some benefit of the doubt. Never underestimate the power of religious trauma!

Was laughing my rear end off at the RWM spin on Hunter Biden being willing to testify but being denied by GOP investigators.

In what world does a prosecutor not want to get a defendant on the witness stand under oath? Further, what defense attorney ever really wants their client to get into that similar situation? But, no, see, this is actually good because if they swear Hunter in and bombard him with everything they've got when he's sworn to tell the truth under the threat of perjury, it allows the democrats to somehow "control the narrative" and would give MSNBC and CNN to run selectively edited clips that would score points for the far left liberal democratic party and make a sham of their slam dunk case.

Nah, we'd rather just feed the "evidence" we have through the proper RWM channels and let radio hosts offer it because a court of law is too biased and any judge who was appointed by anyone to the left of Mussolini is part of the deep state.

I look forward to near-future of the Republican Party creating an official policy of "avoid everyone we say is important testifying under oath in general" after they figure out that they're deep enough into fascism that truth with some legal authority behind it becomes dangerous as hell to them

following up on this because it's local to me and i've been in the room with some of the santa ynez council members in meetings, and thus find it interesting in a gossipy way

https://twitter.com/ProfBlackistone/status/1730279222566916272

according to this guy, a council spokesperson replied to an inquiry about the situation with a light "we don't encourage people to do this kind of thing" response, which honestly is about what i would expect given the views i've heard folks express

it's a situation with some nuance that i think would make for an interesting discussion topic, but i don't think the right-wing media is interested in nuance, considering no one reporting on it even bothered reaching out to the tribe, let alone considering the implications of there being no single homogenous "american indian" identity, because the way the broader racial classifications were setup are bullshit

The right wing has a strange understanding of addiction to pornography. Because they consider masturbation and sexual desire morally bad, it seems like the religious wing of the right sees any desire to view nudity or sexual acts as a sickness in need of a cure. I know that there are people who develop compulsions to view pornography, blow up their marriages and lose their jobs etc because they can’t stop thinking about jerking off, but the language of porn addiction seems to have a particular currency with conservative American Christians where it stands in for sexual desire of any kind.

Yeah I've heard Evangelicals mention that they consider the threshold for "pornography addiction" to be if a person looks at it once a month. I suppose it's a way bigger deal for a belief system that believes that you are only allowed to look at your spouse with anything even approaching attraction, but to anyone outside of that system, it's a bit ridiculous.

As a former member of an evangelical denomination, I can tell you that it's exactly this. They preach against pornography regularly. Viewing it at all is a sexual sin since it means you're lusting after someone other than a (heterosexual) spouse. If they ever find out that someone has looked at pornography, they'll try their damnedest to push that person into some kind of counseling.

What's really the most offensive about the film is the lack of originality more than anything. It's not even a novel lovely concept. Very much a "Simpsons did it". The only trigger warning it really needs is bad comedy.

There's a library full of straight to VHS Blockbuster Video drek indistinguishable from Lady Ballers, and at least those films will have the benefit of conventional distribution. The fact that Daily Wire stans have been pushing so hard to try to promote this film, as though it's one of the best things you could see on X.com is especially sad. Like a Columbia Records subscription to forgettable straight to video titles.

Here's the trailer for that Hannity xmas movie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SygK5gIyeE

The recalled toy is just a generic action figure named "Silver Saturn" and there's no indication what he did to get "cancelled" but whoo boy does this look loving horrible. From what I can imagine, I assume that the actor who played Silver Saturn in the movies said something really offensive like "Merry Christmas", stood for the national anthem once or said he watches FOX News, because I doubt they'd delve too deep on the subject and make him a Trump voter (too easy) or an outright bigot (too much).

Knowing these weirdos it's probably just he's a very open Christian or something and speaks about it a lot. That would tie into Christmas at least. Just this little preview really gives a real glimpse what the inside of a conservative brain looks like though. I couldn't find any other clips from it.

If any of it happened IRL ever, it'd be like a Hulk Hogan (or someone) action figure where the actor went on some weird Pizzagate, Qanon, Jan. 6, or "rigged election" rant or was credibly accused of rape/sexual assault in a way that put the kibosh on the toy's troubling commercial potential. I just used Hulk Hogan as a random name here but really dying to know what the whole "too patriotic" backlash entails in this movie's idiotic universe where, I'm sure, arguments erupt in shopping malls because someone said "Merry Christmas" while open carrying in a Macy's store and all the liberals had a cow about it.

Meaning poo poo that never happens but let's all be outraged about it anyway.

Predictions on what the Silver Surfer Saturn actor did that was "too PATRIOTIC"?

- Said "Merry Christmas" one time too many
- Stood for the anthem at a football game
- Openly expressed his Christianity on a talk show
- Had his property burnt down or windows broken by BLM
- Defended his property/wife/kids with a firearm during a home invasion and accidentally shot someone
- Did a livestream with Ben Shaprio books on his shelf
- Told his kid that the child was was "born a man/woman" and argued with a doctor/shrink about it
- Popped off about what a hell hole LA/California is once he moved there for his acting job
- Expressed concerns about the border/Muslims/ or "those people"
- Had a photo surface of his younger days in college wearing blackface or saying the n-word
- Roots for the Washington Redskins
- Hung a gigantic US Flag that would black out the sun in his HOA neighborhood
- Hunts and livestreams it
- Was seen at a Trump rally once
- Made an offensive joke on Twitter
- Was asked to take down his Nativity scene decorations

I mean...the possibilities here are pretty endless and I was surprised how easy it was to come up with poo poo but it's gotta be option "A", right? Or something to do with The War on Christmas so maybe that last one since, you know, it's a Christmas movie with that really clever title, Jingle Smells. Maybe "smells" enters into it somehow and he said something or another smelled bad or didn't pass a smell test? Because otherwise that's just a stupid name for what looks like an even more stupid movie.

Could be something as silly as "voted Republican" or "supported the troops" one time where he used to be a liberal/democrat.

I'm certain it's insane though.

I mean, capitalism allows for indictments of capitalism. Capitalism commodifies anything it can--everything from identity and ideology to loving dirt and water--and if ideology can be commodified, then that includes the ideology of one's opposition. It may not be your first choice, but hey, as long as The Boys sells, Amazon will keep making it.

(The movie you're looking for is probably somewhere in Bojack Horseman.)
