It’s like the graduating class of an experimental unschooling school all went and became an army, nobody ever learned anything and they’re used to not being made to do stuff and so nothing actually happens and nobody sees anything wrong with that. I’m glad they’re amazingly incompetent and I hope they get worse, but still, it’s uncanny to see happening

There is always shadiness with geopolitics, and that includes this conflict. So the Russians just sent Su-35s to Iran, but at the same time, were actually working with the UAE to produce the SU-75 (the "Checkmate") at the same time. In addition, the Saudis are slowly working closer with the Iranians, but also clearly have been looking the other way on Gaza. Hezbollah supposedly has got Russian weapons, while the Saudis have been soft on more cuts from OPEC+. Obviously the UAE and the Saudis are more US aligned but at the same time they have worked against US interest as well. Their interests in this conflict may not be what necessarily what the US wants, but they want themselves, they don't want Hamas to win because they know that that a Hamas victory isn't going to be good for them in the long run and a real issue with their legitimacy. The Iranians don't care but are trying to avoid an outright war with the United States, while the Russians are looking for opportunities and sense Israel is a weakning regional power.

the weakness the US has shown over the last few years I'm sure has made more US allies want to hedge their bets. Though I'm still surprised at the growing ties between Iran and KSA. I had thought antagonism with Iran was fairly well embedded in the KSA and then suddenly China makes peace between them. Doesn't that remove a reason for the KSA to make nice with Israel? I know the US wants all their allies friendly with Israel, but I had assumed that mutual antagonism with Iran was another selling point. Hopefully there's some path to getting the KSA the gently caress out of the way of Ansar Allah.
