If you dont find casinos fun thank your luck you dont have the traits that those things exploit the poo poo out of.

I genuinely think pretty much any cash for random rewards game mechanic should be flat out banned.

It's a lovely phone game, on a giant portrait mode phone screen. I know there's a huge amount of crossover between the two, but I still don't like it.

real money poker is one thing cause like, its got Some amount of skill and you have to at least consider the presence of other human beings. circumstances change so you have to think. same with some other forms of gambling. im not a fan of most of them (at least as an actual industry, some dads betting beer money on poker night is who gives a poo poo) but i can imagine arguments in their defense.

slots however should 100% be banned.

Exactly, and that's why a "benefit" or "bonus" of stock units that aren't immediately vested is, as I said, effectively a scam.
(because the company can just lay off a ton of employees right before the deadline and not have to pay them any of it, and that's a bad thing. see: Bungie literally just doing this)

Much like an annual bonus, you can value it at a discount based on your perceived odds of actually getting it.

For some companies you should trust it very little, for other companies it's rock solid.

No bets against the house is the bare minimum gambling restriction IMO.

I'm not sure how I feel about bets between people, though I'm inclined to think it's not worth banning that sort of thing regardless, like prohibition. And if a casino wants to facilitate that by providing card tables and charging a fee/rake then fine. But any time you're handing money over to a business for a random return depending on an outcome they control, that is hosed up.

Oh thats an interesting outcome given that the (seemingly) more restrictive apple store was ruled not a monopoly.

Edit: Oh lol Google had secret talks to quash other app stores and paid off activision to not open one on their system. Lol.

I did not expect that at all, but it's a nice outcome. It'll definitely have a lot of short term growing pains but I'm interested to see what the long term repercussions are.

this is good news in a lot of ways, since there's stuff google somewhat arbitrarily blocks (and also, y'know, porn.) being able to create a separate app store is great.

ofc it opens the door to gigantic scams but hell, the google play store already has giant scams on it

hopefully they quash the apple monopoly on their platform also because the iOS store has done godawful stuff too. there was an incident a few months back of apple's chinese branch manipulating female devs into sexual favors in exchange for getting them boosted to the top of the algorithm, and threatening them with burying them beneath garbage if they didnt comply.

In some brighter news: Indie studio New Blood put out a big update for their flagship game DUSK - including a free DLC that redoes every single art asset - and made some big moves to honor the people who did the work.

quote:

This massive undertaking has been the work of primarily two of our developers.

Ben "Zombie" Moir has been rewriting DUSK from the ground up for nearly 5 years and David "Garumin" Bonin has remade every single visual asset from DUSK by hand over the last two years as well as creating all new ones to add to DUSK HD.

And unbeknownst to them, all the profits from DUSK for the month of December 2023 will be split between David and Ben. Don't spend it all in one place, lads.

The entirely new enemy and weapon models were made by our 3D artist Cody Lambert and all the new animations you see were made by our animators Dom Antonazzo and Lachlan Milne.

These developers all started out as external contractors for us and because of DUSK HD they are now full time New Blood employees working across all our games. WELCOME TO THE CULT.
