Jesse Plemons being the star coming out of Friday Night Lights is the biggest mindfuck.

He's incredible.

I’d say Michael B Jordan is the bigger star, in terms of name power at least, but yeah Plemons rules. Even on FNL he was obviously way better than most of the other actors, especially the younger ones. I don’t even mind that stupid “oops, I killed someone” plot in season two because he’s legitimately good in it.

It's not so much about accuracy as it is that seeing "California and Texas are on the same side" immediately makes me think it's going for horseshoe theory/truth is in the middle.

EXISTENCE IS PAIN😬
Chuds are already rejecting the premise of Texas cooperating with California. Their favorite part is the idea of journalists getting shot on sight in DC.

The scene where a family is held at gunpoint by a soldier was pretty chilling.
"Who are you people?"
"We're Americans!"
"Americans? what kind?

I won't be surprised if people grossly misinterpret the film like they did with The Hunt. Chuds were outraged that it was a movie promoting the hunting of conservatives for fun. Turns out the libs organizing the whole thing basically fall into every right wing assumption in that they are craven, inept opportunists, unlike the protagonist. Then the twist at the end is they accidentally grabbed the wrong person which is why she was such a bad rear end; she was a jaded veteran that did have it out for the AoC coded villain but more over specific policy issues and not mindless partisanship.

To keep you safe

I honestly think the movie will just be told from the point of view of the war journalists, and we'll never find out what the war is even about. And the California Texas Alliance thing is being used to make it so it could be about anything. More about the horrors of war coming to the United States itself. Pick your own cause, like a choose your own adventure novel.

Whether this is a good or bad thing is a different discussion, of course.

The trailer for Civil War isn’t doing much to sell me on the movie, but it doesn’t really matter when I’m presold on anything Alex Garland does (Men was undercooked but I liked it anyway)

Very excited for what appears to be a cheesy, dated academic-affair stinker where shots of Jenna Ortega in centre frame walking slowly towards the camera take up 30 minutes of running time.

Its very jarring to me to have the "complex themes" and help links at the end of the trailer.

Looks like it could be deece though, I like Martin Freeman a lot.

he really doesn't lol. every movie he's made as a director has been worse than the previous one and his last one was absolute rear end.

now that i've seen the trailer though, i am very much looking forward to renting the DVD from the library and seeing how bad it is.

He was in the last few seasons as a replacement for some of the characters who had aged out. Generally when shows do that they become worse and the new characters aren’t as interesting, but MBJ’s so good it was actually an improvement.

He directed the majority of Dredd uncredited due to behind the scenes drama.

So far the message seems to be "how could we let This happen." Kind of a companion piece with Don't Look Up. You have Dunst talking about how her work abroad should have been a warning, the store clerk at the beginning saying she prefers to tune out and live her life, and the little newscaster tidbit of President Swanson being on his Constitution-breaking 3rd term which could have been the result of war rather than one of the causea but I get the sense it's the latter.
