Someone needs to explain to Santana that he's the Jannetty and to get the tag team back before Ortiz gets over.

I really wish I understood what the deal with Santana and Ortiz is. They reunite for Wembley, have their blowoff match, and then… nothing. Ortiz had that little thing with Lethal and Eddie, but both Santana and Ortiz should be doing way more cool poo poo.

Maybe next year we get a bigger Continental Classic so guys like that can do something for a few weeks.

FWIW, the bolded portion isn't true. On the Wrestling Open shows, everyone gets an equal split of the gate plus their sponsorship money if someone paid to sponsor them. I don't really doubt the substance of Coral's story (though Drew sent me an angry DM for retweeting it), but the talent is absolutely paid at Wrestling Open. Basically, the idea is what's the most fair way that they can run weekly shows that more or less everyone who shows up can work a match/get reps in before a paying crowd while also making the shows sustainable enough to run weekly.

For the wrestlers who have been regulars, it's clearly helped them develop as talent. Several months back I went to a House of Glory show that Ichiban was on, and watching him live, it was very noticeable how much smoother and more polished he was in the ring than almost everyone else on the card.

Pacing felt off. Weird vibes and the crowd was hostile.

The promoter came out at the beginning and said he got an offer to be a territory in Billy Corgan's NWA but that he always liked Stone Temple Pilots more than Smashing Pumpkins. Said if he signed with NWA he'd lose too much control over things.

First match was a Loser Leaves ALW match between Jerry Swirlz and Che. Turned into a literal garbage match:

Second match was a Falls Count Somewhere match between Ripper Zbysko and El Ridiculoso. The stipulation was that the pinfall would only count in a specific part of the ring but neither competitor knew where. They figured it was somewhere outside the ring so they fought all the way up to the commentary desk. Turns out it was in the middle of the ring the whole time.

Next up was TNT vs. The Headbangers. I had no idea they were still around. They took a while to get started. Ricky Morton was originally booked for this match but he was not present and not mentioned.

Thrasher ate a cookie from the crowd, which may have been a mistake because somebody shouted it was a weed cookie.

After this match, they took an extended intermission/meet-and-greet which really threw things off. Not sure what happened there but it was awkward.

More to follow.

The show was a banger, unsurprisingly. All the title matches ruled, and the Westbrook/Everett match got wild and was an awesome way to put a bow on that feud.

After a 30-minute impromptu break, the show resumed with a Hardcore Championship Scramble Match. 15 minutes, title change on every pinfall, competitors came out on a timer like a royal rumble.

Tony DeVito started out with a bad promo that the crowd hated. This one was hard to get a good view of because most of it took place between the ring and the commentary desk, which had no seating. RIP to a bunch of cookie sheets.

Tony DeVito had a temper tantrum after the match and threw a bunch of poo poo everywhere and tore down some of the entrance curtain. (No good shots of this, sadly.)

Next up was Leva Bates vs Deonna Purrazzo vs Renee Michelle somebody I didn't recognize.

Atomic Legacy Wrestling posted:

Well. Unfortunately injuries and accidents occur. I received some unfortunate news that both Renee Michelle was injured and Deonna Purrazzo received an injury at the PPV last night. We wish them both a speecy recovery. Both have reassured us once they are healed they will be back at ALW. But what does that do for tonight?? Well after 2 hours of making phone calls we found a former NXT Star that was ready for the challenge and to make her ALW debut and to fight LEVA BATES. Who is it!?? All will be revealed at the show. Thank you!

Leva Bates's current gimmick is Norman Bates. She comes to the ring dressed in a granny wig, which she puts on in order to turn evil.

Next up (and last for me) was Ryzin vs Jay Synn in a 2/3 falls match. First fall strap, second fall submission, third fall Christmas presents.

Legos for Christmas

Baseball bat for Christmas

Bed of nails for Christmas

I left after this match. They did another intermission and I wanted food.

Interesting show overall, not great but there were some moments.

BAWWW-UNH!
Ok, that time of the month again, my drunken review of a Finnish indie show.

The biggest show of the year, now branded with a new name Routapiste (referring frozen ground), I don't know for a fact, but I presume that the old name Talvisota (Winter War) was deemed too nationalistic (chuddy) by the current regime. Fine by me, I always felt that the old name was a bit iffy.

The show was sold out, for the third time in a row, this time at a bigger venue (a bit under 300 people) and according to them, the fastest sold out show in the promotion's 17 year history (although, I don't know if the earlier ones were comparable, and if they had a larger venue).

Now, after four shows I think I can make a mildly well-informed review of the local scene. The general in-ring talent is fine. There hasn't been really lousy matches and almost everything is performed at an acceptable level, but I don't think there's anyone who could get over in America with in-ring performance alone. That said, it's good enough. The crowd is very cooperative and the atmosphere gets quite rowdy when a popular babyface is pounding the heel. Nothing too fancy, but it works.

I've actually followed the second level hockey lately and the mood it's kind of similar. The talent isn't there, but it can be exciting, if you want it to be exciting.

The way the matches are agented is honestly really solid. I don't know how they do things here and if there's one or several guys and how much it's up to the wrestlers etc., but what is visible to me is really good. I feel like almost all the matches I've seen has had the correct amount of time, an easily followable story and a logical finish.

Today's show had again a couple of changes because of illness and injury. The most unfortunate was that the main champion Regina Rosendahl had hosed up her knee in a Swedish show and had to relinquish the title after 200 days. The main event was fortunately booked to be a threeway and ended up being really good with the two remaining contestants, so at least it wasn't a complete tragedy. Regina gave a tear-jerking promo and I feel really bad for her. It's going to be a long recovery for someone who isn't paid a lot to do this.

Overall the show had decent matches, but the booking ended up being pretty quite depressing. The babyfaces won only two matches (out of 7, I think) and only one of those wins was a feel-good victory. The other babyface win had an abused heel tag team member finally turning on his partner, but then getting dick punched and eating the pin in the most unsatisfying way. It all could have been saved if the crowd's favorite SAN would have won the main event, but in the end the main heel stable successfully defended the tag titles, won the "money in the bank" and also grabbed the heavyweight championship, ugh.

My handpicked favorite rookie Mimosa was in a battle royale and did quite impressive power bomb on the biggest dude in the ring, so that was great.
