just saw this as I've been slowly catching up on the thread, I love this thread but it moves way too fast, sorry for the late reply. I have no clue about the metal fibers, they were extremely fine and flexible, maybe just literal metal filaments? I dunno. they were seriously like hair, that's how fine they were.

one time I saw a buddy of mine a week after he got shot in a fatal shooting at a skatepark here and the first thing he said was, "I GOT SHOT IN THE BUTT CHECK THIS OUT," he pulled down his pants, showed me the entry and exit wounds and said, "I got shot in the butt-tocks"

it was extremely funny

I had an MRI last month and they asked me point blank 'Do you have any metal in your eyes?'. I could only respond with 'gently caress, I hope not!' because I'm pretty sure I'd know if I did but I suddenly had doubts.

My dad had a sliver of metal embedded in his eye for months and didn't know until he had some slight pain.

The doctor was like "I don't understand why you're not writhing around in indescribable pain all the time but we gotta get that out of your eye socket."

I once got a chunk of metal stuck in my eye so big the doctor could use tweezers to pull it out. He immediately runs out of the room and I hear, check out what I just pulled outta this kids eye!

Wear safety glasses. One mm over I would have lost sight in that eye.

Hell, I have to wear safety glasses when I pour a glass of water. For some reason no matter how far away I am from the water source whenever I pour a liquid into another liquid it splashes up into my eye.

Freak accidents aside, the organization protects rapists and pedophiles so NHL delenda est.

That said, kids playing hockey should have better neck protection. Necks getting sliced/struck/broke is how hockey players are most grievously injured

I've made a huge mistake.
I don't think it got followed up here: the UK police did actually arrest someone on suspicion of manslaughter after the ice hockey throat slashing death (they didn't name a name but it's not a long list of possibilities...). It might never amount to anything but there was enough possibility for them to at least investigate and not just immediately put it down as a freak accident.

yeah in columbus ohio, its why they mandated safety nets be put up in every rink.

it has a relatively okay ending: the mom found closure and connected with the player who hit the shot (that deflected off a stick into the lower bowl) https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2010/12/18/nine-years-after-13-year/24048691007/
relatively as in, a kid still died from a freak accident, but this is the OSHA thread, where rules are written in blood.

it took DECADES for players to even wear helmets, then visors, and now neckguards.
