Is Stalin the closest any human came to actually being the cultural conception of Santa? Setting aside that Santa was originally Saint Nicholas. Factories above the Arctic Circle, sees you when you're sleeping, knows when you're awake, people constantly writing him letters begging for things,

My favorite fighter ace is Pierre Le Gloan. In WW2 he shot down four German aircraft, seven British aircraft, and seven Italian.

I cannot stand all this talk about the "Vichy Government" and "Vichy forces" and all that crap. France fought in WW2, they lost, they signed a peace treaty with the Reich, and then were a neutral country after that. The only other French authority after the peace was a low-ranking officer who was a British puppet who claimed an illegal authority over the entire French Empire and absolutely did not represent the will of the French people. Compare and contrast the Poles who evacuated their whole government overseas and operated under Nazi occupation. Full ministries, an entire state operating under the crushing weight of an occupying force. Including accrediting degrees and supporting the arts. The French stopped fighting. The Poles continued. One of those got completely hosed. In every sense of the word.
