For sure, idk why anyone gets angry over sports, personally. I'm not big on sports in general but bf likes the sharks so we're watching em while they're here in Denver the next few weeks. I think hockey is at least more entertaining than some sports but definitely not my favorite thing. Could be more boring, could be going to a baseball game or watching billiards or something. I never watch sports except when he's watching highlights.

The few sports I enjoy playing are pretty casual anyways like ultimate, disc golf, or bowling. I'm a monster on the ping pong table. That's about it. Haven't played hockey in at least 20 years.

That's a bike lane. I don't think it's built to hold a cargo truck full of bricks, though it probably should be.

It's raining too, might be new sinkhole caused by washout.

So there's a youtube channel that does super slowmo shots using various guns and explosives. A few weeks ago they were doing one with a reactivated rocket launcher, but the launcher catastrophically failed and essentially blew up in the user's hands. Fortunately he survived and is well on the road to recovery, avoiding almost all the shrapnel and "only" suffering from a TBI and burns to his arms.

They just released a breakdown video of what happened, featuring the guy who was injured, going through the footage and examining the failed launcher. Essentially the booster charge partially failed and broke into pieces, leading to one of the pieces momentarily blocking the exhaust tube, and the resulting overpressure causing a weld from the reactivation to fail.

Quite :nws: due to high-definition, slow motion footage of the explosion occurring and its immediate aftermath, but the visible injuries aren't particularly graphic and as mentioned the victim made a full recovery.

So in the video you see the helmet and eye protection get blown off. Am I remembering my high school physics correctly to say that whatever energy was necessary to blow those off of him, he was saved from damage from that energy?

e to add: Obviously not all of the energy, but the miniscule fraction of total energy that was used to knock his PPE off. I don't type good at 5 am.

Sort of?

You're correct in the most literal sense, in that any kinetic energy going into moving his PPE is not going into him. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's better that they blew off, or that ablative PPE is the wave of the future. Among other things, his PPE remaining worn may have served as insulation from thermal energy, preventing burns, or blocked shrapnel and, from an energy perspective, distributing that kinetic energy over the surface of the interface of the PPE and his body or absorbing it through inelastic deformation/failure - all better places to have the energy than his body. There are also mechanisms of energy transmission that the PPE isn't going to really block; the shockwave from the explosion, for example. Injury biomechanics get really complicated and aren't well understood even for simpler cases than an explosion next to your head. I'm certainly not an expert in the field. Generally reducing everything down to an energy perspective doesn't capture enough of the physics to describe actual outcomes, though.

Think of how much money you can skim off if you skimp on building materials.

One of the walls in my bathroom just kind of peeled off and collapsed once. I duct taped it back into place. My landlord considered this a normal amount of damage and I got my deposit back.
