their 40K gimmicks to date are pretty thin. noise marine weapons on everyone and everything, including characters, dreadnoughts, and tanks. a power bottom masochist who eats sadists' souls and steals their bodies. literally ghost rider. fabius bile, who's now more of a chaos undivided guy.

their 30K gimmicks are even weaker. swordsmen but fancy. terminators with fancy spears. noise marines again.

I like EC in 30k because there's nothing that special about them, but they want to be seen as special. It's just the narcissist/perfectionist team. Their costumes are extremely awesome and that's enough for me. I guess their other traits are speed and finesse which is absolutely fine in the pantheon of "like to break wall" and "like to build wall" teams.

In 40k I reckon they could retain the focus on sonic weapons but extend it out to give them rules for those big saucer eyes to see all the colours and enhanced senses for pain or whatever. Bring in some of that Hedonites action and make them a travelling circus type deal with a mixed army of wild cultists, daemonettes and marines since they don't tend to be very organised and just follow the party.

I would also still appreciate some danger.

30k EC also got the first "late-war" list, which includes all the above plus mechanics for getting Stupified, which is basically +1S, a FNP, and some morale stuff. It's basically when the drugs kick in.

I'm still trying to figure out how it works with the main book though, since you lose access to a ton of other stuff. S6 shred chain bayonets seems like a hilarious thing to explore though, so I'll probably try these maniacs soon.

E: they're pretty great in 30k in that all their unique stuff is flavorful and good.

it's kinda dumb that they got the first list for being actual chaos marines before word bearers, though, but 30K is just haphazard like that. pretty sure we still don't have rules for blackshields, too.

it's also pretty much what CSM does right now. i am not eager to have GW make another chaos marine army when TS, WE, and DG could really benefit from more stuff. ideally not more one-off characters, in the case of TS and DG, and not more elite melee infantry in the case of WE.

I’m still holding out for world eaters havinf a better range once the new codex drops. I wanted to make my second army based around Angry Ron and his pissed off kids, but then the entire range was four models and I mostly am into it to paint a variety of cool guys, so that fell apart.

Custodes could do with new models (not characters please), but mostly because the current ones are a bit too stunty. Realistically, I expect some of the FW resins to be converted into plastic, which is also good enough. I don't think Custodes actually need more units, rules-wise. They could just tweak the rules so they are all viable.

I could see WE getting a Butcher-Surgeon character, and maybe even the lore accurate long range troops Teeth of Khorne. Everyone wants Red Butcher terminators but I don't see that happening when Eightbound kind of already fill that role. Thousand Sons could use a vehicle or demon engine or something. My CSM wishlist is a detachment that expands on traitor guard and gives access to some IG tanks for some Iron Warriorsy goodness.

Omg could GW release at least a single Space Marine kit with a shotgun being held with one hand? Just one hand on the grip and without the other on the pump. Just once. Right or left handed, I don't care.

Every legion needs cool terminators though. Let em take a wider variety of stuff than the Eightbound and that would be good enough to differentiate them.

I'm surprised we have seen more Supreme Commander type units. After The Silent King came out I had assumed we would be seeing big faction leader models on a semi-regular basis but they've been rare so far.

A grip of noise varients for existing stuff is the easy win (new noise marine sculpts, bring back the noise dreads or at least make noise helbrutes, etc.), corrupted Palatine Blades melee focused Legionaries or Chosen, Phoenix Guard terminator sculpts, Eidolon character model (probably happening), a new Lucius (probably happening), and whatever else the people paid to think of units can come up with. This gives EC about as much new stuff as World Eaters got

Edit: And maybe don't remove as many core CSM units this time like you did from WE, and give them back to those guys as well

Honestly I don't think WE need a heavy melee brawler unit. I think they would rather have bikes, an actual Havoc squad, Raptors, etc. I know Red Butchers are a thing and would sell a lot but I don't think they meaningfully expand their roster in a unique way.

Not to mention you can essentially build a 30k Red Butchers squad out of Exalted Eightbound already (just with a few more chainfists). I agree that Bikes (ideally that can be shared with CSM) and the Teeth of Khorne are probably the two things I would mainly like for WE but it also might be nice if they brought the Rampager squads forward as non-Raptor Jump Troops with unique weapons (even if it's just as Berserkers with an upgrade frame of Jump Packs and Cadere weapons).

For Emperor's Children I hope that their inevitable Sonic Dreadnought is also a way for them to revisit the Helbrute via a new model and an add-on sprue since the sculpt is kind of showing its age. Maybe they could also do the Teeth of Khorne (with Plasma Cannons) and Sunkillers (probably with Volkite and Multi-meltas) as add-ons for the Havocs kit.

Basically just make more add-on sprues for things like they've done with the Legionaries Kill Team squad and the upcoming Night Lords Kill Team because that seems to be working very well for them.

Probably; theres a story about a Custodes ship returning to Terra, making a beeline for the palace, and being challenged at every increasingly secure checkpoint. The security codes given were so astronomically high that every security officer that authorized them was turned into a servitor after the ship landed.

I always thought that the 40K universe was supposed to be big and messy enough that anyone can end up fighting anyone for any reason. And a lot of factions have baked in reasons for it. Like Chaos will fight anyone because it's chaos, Eldar for their mysterious farseer reasons, anyone in the Empire just shouts heresy and starts blasting, and so on.
