i watched the barbie movie and i didn't think it was very good. 30 minutes of movie in a 2 hour sack. almost as if the premise of "what if there was a Barbie movie" is not enough premise to sustain an entire film...

i watched it a 2nd time with my gf when it came out on max and i feel exactly the same way.

everything everywhere all at once felt way too long too

Trying to remember one film, where it starts with two people in plate dueling, and it shows the swords not really doing much, and the fight ending with a knife through the helmet visor, which, yeah, one of the most common ways a fight with someone in plate actually ended.

Probably thinking of ‘The King’. Every fight basically comes down to shanking or claw hammering knights.

Not sure how accurate it was but I loved the score and cast, and Chalomet as twink goth King Henry

The end result of a fascist dystopian world take over, mandatory watching every new 300 hr+ new avengers movie every opening weekend.

This does not do good things for ensuring the trains run on time.

also still probably the only scene in cinematic history that depicts how plate armor actually functions
Spoilered for unnecessary sword nerd nitpicking:
It does depict mobility in plate armor well, because they dressed up two dudes in metal armor and had them go at it, but in terms of "how would medieval knights or any professional warrior have fought in armor", it's not good at all. They're mostly just flailing around. Nice job with hooking the knee early in that fight, though.
Knights were professional soldiers and killers, they were quite good and well-trained fighters. This doesn't show that.

I don't really think a pendulum is swinging much these days

like, you can't have sexy exploitation stuff in movies anymore, streaming TV had a brief period where you could but that's p much over too. Barbie was essentially a White Feminism movie and it was a blockbuster. But also people can see through when idpol is applied cynically, see: Disney trying to convince everyone that every single MCU thing was a triumph of social justice and increasingly failing at it. The alt-right are really trying to make a pendulum swing the other way (boycotting beer brands over being insufficiently fascistic in their advertising etc) but I don't really think there's anything to swing
