Newton has figured out that backyard funtimes only happen when he leaves his crate, and now I can actually call him out when I want. I also got him a bed for the living room so he has a thing he can sit on there and feel safer/comfier than being on the hardwood floor or rug. So when we go out it’s bedroom -> hallway -> bed in living room -> kitchen -> outside party time. I had a couple people over for Christmas and had them sit in the kitchen quiet and calm and got Newton to come out. He was excited and nervous to the point where he was shaking and I heard his teeth chatter a little bit. But he sat on his bed until he stopped, and had a great time getting pets from everybody. He went back to his crate a couple times to recharge, but wound up feeling safe enough to actually fall asleep out in the living room with everybody with his new Christmas present.

Go back through the thread and read Pookah’s updates about Henry, who was a neglected and likely abused dog that they have cared for lovingly, and his journey to come out of his shell; it’s great.

So now I have the energy to take properly care of my dogs again (housemate has been doing most of it for me for a while now). For the first time in months, I woke up yesterday with a smile instead of a deep sigh. Funnily enough I attribute the change to having watched the show Danger UXB that first came out in 1979. I managed to be able to compare a lot of my own issues with the plotline and got a huge boost of the series ending. These two seem quite pleased with the change
