Any time now up to a week or two, Russia is required to release it's economic numbers. Expect something potentially wild because the limited numbers that has been released over the year have been pretty bad and the end of year stuff is when Russia closes out the year by adding everything it's missed or put on hold. Their inflation expectations is already out and is 14.2%(lmao) along with another interest rate hike last week.

�The United States would face the risk of a larger and costlier war in Europe. �Most dangerous of all, however, U.S. adversaries would learn that they can break America�s will to act in support of their strategic interests,� it added.

The remarks came as NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg told German news agency dpa he believes the Kremlin "has lost Ukraine forever" as a result of its struggling invasion.

"The whole purpose of this invasion was to prevent Ukraine from moving toward NATO and the European Union. Ukraine is now closer to NATO and the European Union than ever before," he told dpa.

"This is a big strategic defeat for Russia."

Meanwhile, The New York Times -- citing Russian, U.S., and international sources -- on December 23 reported that Putin had given signals over the past three months that �he is open to a cease-fire that freezes the fighting along the current lines.�

The report cited former senior Russian officials close to the Kremlin and U.S. and international officials who say they have received such a message from Putin's envoys.

Zelenskiy has consistently said he is unwilling to discuss a peace deal that would require Ukraine to give up any of its territory, including lands captured by Russia since its February 2022 invasion.

On the battlefield, Kyiv on December 23 said 75 clashes took place between Ukrainian forces and the invading Russian Army over the past 24 hours, adding that its troops repelled attacks on six front lines in the country�s east and northeast.

Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 assaults in the Synkivka area of Kharkiv Province, where Russian forces attempted to break through the defenses, Ukraine�s General Staff said.

The Ukrainian military also said its forces had fought off Russian attacks on Avdiyivka in the Donetsk region as the Kremlin�s forces continued efforts to encircle the eastern city in the Donetsk region on December 23.

"Our warriors are maintaining their defense and causing significant casualties to the occupiers," the military said.

The Infantry Brigade posted a video of it dropping what appears to be prohibited K-51 presumably in Krynky, and the ISW had previously observed Russian forces using K-51 grenades against Ukrainian positions in Donetsk Oblast in November 2022.

Ukraine has documented Russia's persistent use of chemical weapons since the beginning of full-scale invasion. This past August, Russian troops fired two artillery barrages with munitions containing a chemical substance onto Ukrainian troops. And in May, Ukraine's Border Service claimed that the Russian military had fired munitions with irritant aerosols and chemical grenades near Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast.

Further up the road, three other vehicles stop and some of the crew can be seen swiftly retreating on foot.

Meanwhile back at the building near their drop off point, Russian soldiers come within metres of defending Ukrainian troops.

The video stops shortly after a grenade goes off among them.

While the exact date of the footage is now known, the Institute for the Study of War in its latest report said Russian forces had in recent days made �marginal gains� in the north of Synkivka and �continued positional engagements� near the village.

Last week Col.-Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, commander of the Armed Forces Ukraine�s (AFU) ground forces, reported via his Telegram that the fiercest battles are ongoing in the Kupyansk, Lyman, and Bakhmut sectors.

Syrsky is the general credited for Ukraine�s stunning counteroffensive last year, which had brought the northeastern Ukrainian towns Kupyansk and Lyman back under AFU control.

According to the commander, the Russians are concentrating their main efforts around Bakhmut and are using the most combat-capable units of the landing forces, the marines, and the �Storm Z� and �Storm V� units formed of convicts to conduct assault operations.

Russia�s goal in this direction is an offensive on the settlement of Chasiv Yar, then on Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka, Slovyansk, Kramatorsk, with further access to the borders of the Donetsk region.
