At my keyboard and doing some checking, Bob went through a period where he was apparently producing a lot of antivaxx cartoons for the Democracy Fund, a canadian libertarian organization that at the time was focused on antivax (and not to be confused with an identically named US organization funded by Paul Omidyar). I don't know that he's still working for them (though there are toons marked 2023 that bear their name), but in the process of searching I found this video interview he did with their leader. For reference, political nonprofit groups at this scale often have some central figure who's core to their appeal and who the organization functionally revolves around. no he won't. or if he does he will be immediately replaced in the narrative by someone who fulfils basically exactly the same role. the Good Guys (from Ishida's view) can never be allowed to properly win in the strip or the story will end, and then what will Tats do with his day. they are stuck in this eternal loop until ishida eventually either dies or touches grass, and there's no reason to expect either will happen any time soon. sinfest is hell

Weird tangent but am I crazy or does it feel like Tats' art is getting more...stiff? A lot of it is vertical lines, with characters either centered within frame or slightly offset, in either profile, back, or front shots. Compared to his earlier stuff it feels like there's less and less movement even from frame-to-frame, and the compositions are boring and static even when they deviate from just having your big important character in the middle of the frame. Like they could just be illustrations accompanying some walls of text explaining what's going on and you'd be forgiven for not knowing Ishida used to draw comics. I think, and I am going to suck at trying to articulate this, that he's trying more for "striking" art pieces rather than comics. He isn't interested in drawing stuff happening like in a normal comic, he's interested in making GBS threads out whatever bit of hate speech he's riding for the day and pairing it with an image that's supposed to stick in your mind like some sort of propaganda flyer.
