Many products from the 20's and prior are peppered with them, iirc there was a girl's club named the swastika club, there were companies/brands named swastika. big props to that one consumer products brand that leaned right on into it in the 40s and printed "TO HELL WITH THE KRAUTS, WE'VE USED IT SINCE 1890" all over their packaging

These are good actually, as they let the people turning left (or U turning) to wait outside of the main road. Waiting in the middle for a left turn blocks visibility for all in the road. Jughandle just eases the whole situation to normal intersection.

I did this on accident once with a pair of wire snips and it just popped and sparked. Made a nice weld spot on the snips too.

In re: diverging diamonds. These things might be safer and use less space than the normal flyover interchanges but holy gently caress do they take a long time to build. The one I drive around in Raleigh, NC has been under construction for years now

Yeah I don't think it's the diverging diamond specifically, it's that all infrastructure work in the US has to overrun its schedule and budget by at least 150%, it's the american way

N'thing the love for diverging diamonds. I didn't know they were a thing with a name, I just knew that route 59 going through Naperville was a loving nightmare until the day they made the intersection look funny, and traffic got 50 times better over night.

The difference is that the contracts are structured so that every day it takes to complete the job substantially reduces the amount of money the company gets paid. Just shows that we can get poo poo done faster, we just choose not to.

The predecessor of Swedish-Swiss industrial conglomerate ABB, ASEA, also had this as their logo from 1883 to 1933, unfortunately I don't know what happened in 1933 that prompted the change
