It's kind of easy to see in hindsight, but it's still insane to think about what a powerful tool a searchable computer database is for fascism and population control, just the ability to cross reference search a few basic things creates the framework for all of modern surveillance and police tactics. Moving a running history of facts out of a police department's collective meat brain and into a computer that organizes it all, holy moley
