I work in higher ed and years ago we'd get DMCA notices from movie studios because kids would be dumb enough to download movies using bittorrents on the campus network.

Disney is afraid of no longer being relevant, so they're going to astroturf SA. That does make sense

I've never told anyone this before, but I ran into Bob Iger at Disneyland. I asked if he has stairs in house and replied with "Yes I am protected."

Hmm. You're not using the correct name. That could mean you're not an astroturfer since you don't know your Cars.

It could also mean you ARE an astroturfer and you don't want to tip your hand.

The current horror industry is trash. I meet this criteria, please hook me up with a small portion of this unbelievable amount of international money. Genuinely.

you can commission it from somebody else though.

like, my dad surprising my sister and I with an extended-play VHS from his buddy at work in 1995 that had Snow White, the Return of Jafar, the Little Mermaid, and like one or two other Disney movies I can't remember (Robin Hood? No, we got that one used at Blockbuster. It's still in the yellow sleeve) isn't me doing my own piracy.

but me asking my cousin to burn me a copy of Crazy Town's debut album The Gift of Game in 2000 is.

So yeah, on the rewatch Reign of Fire still sits in that "good but not great" category of movies. The CGI for the dragons actually holds up really well and the sets for the castle and the ruins of London are great. Almost everyone is putting in good performances though it really is a showdown between Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey to see who can play the man closest to having a nervous breakdown. But it does feel like two thirds of one film with a second much sillier film bolted on for the third act. The first two thirds of the film are incredibly grim before getting downright depressing. Then the third act where they go to London happens and Quinn and Van Zan are making action movie quips, there's jokes about Van Zan's bourbon flask being full of water, the amazing scene with the battle axe vs dragons and it ends with the most 2000s as gently caress buttrock credits music.

Also got some major whiplash seeing Doug Cockle in the movie and hearing hints of his Witcher voice.

I feel like this would be a good movie to do a double feature with the film Doomsday. Just get some B movie shenanigans across Britain with a mix of apocalypse and medieval styles.
